Big trouble if you use red diesel in our trucks.

2000 dollar fine, review of your DL and an automatic IRS audit!

Local TV had a story on it... Bad news no pun intended.

 

my understanding is that trans oil is red dye to identify it , here in CA. the Muni. and transit buses are running red fuel , and it is also Low Sulfur fuel.

 

Every state is different. In Nevada the fine is $100 plus 42¢ per gallon, the amount the tax would have been if you had bought on-road fuel.

 

Here in Alberta, it's dyed purple rather than red, andyou can use it in whatever vehicle you want as long as the vehicle is registered as a farm vehicle and you've got a farm tag on your liscence plate.

 

I have read they have a chemical "sniffer" that keys onto the burnt compounds formed from the combustion of the dye. This way, they can test a running diesel at a roadblock or show exit and find offenders. This is also how they can get around locked gas caps, supposedly.
