Questions on '95 Ctd

My father in law is looking at maybe purchasing a 1995 CTD Regular Cab 2WD with auto tranny, that someone locally has for sale. He says that it has only 47K miles on it. Not sure why the low miles or if it has rolled over because I have not seen the truck. I would guess that this should have the 12 valve engine. The guy is asking about 9 grand for the truck. Father in law says it either had or has a fifth wheel hitch in it. Is this a good price? I guess other than the bed of the truck it looks like it is in pretty good shape. Any known problems to look for in this model year? Was the 53 block in the 24 valves or 12 valve? KDP?

47k?

Rare trophy if the mileage is accurate, that truck is worth much more than that if the mileage is accurate. I have seen Cummins rams of that year with four times that mileage sell for 9K... 53 block i think was more in the 1998 rams, so you have nothing to worry about it, Most likely that truck if the mileage is that low has not had the KDP done, its a simple enough procedure to conduct. If it is an auto or a manual its probly the 160 hp version, and the 175 hp versions of the pump, easy to turn up either ways, I dont know of any serious problems with these trucks other than KDP, and front alignment if its a 4wd...

best of luck

Tx

Tx,
Almost doesn't seem possible to have that low of miles, but I would guess the condition of the truck should be fairly clean. I asked my father in law alot of questions but he couldn't remember much of what he saw. He hasn't driven it yet either. I am going to look at it with him on Thursday . Heck if he doesn't end up buying it I just might. I have been itching to Bomb my truck but I do not want to lose the warranty.

"If it is an auto or a manual its probly the 160 hp version, and the 175 hp versions of the pump"

Is that all the HP that these had back then? It is an auto tranny he says, any idea of the reliability on those? Model number?

Do the 12 valves have the problems with the lift pumps taking out the injection pump or is that the 24 valves? I don't know much about these older CTD's. Thanks.

I have a 95. Good truck! 160hp pump if auto like mine. No lift pump problems, the pumps in these are pretty bullet proof. Easy to bomb up to 300hp or so but as allways, watch out for the tranny!! Tranny is a 47RH, mechanically controlled rather than by the computer, much simpler and easier to maintain. I have an upgraded billet TC with a new modified valve body for firmer shifts, cost about 650 for the TC and another 600 or so for the valve body if I recall correctly. I have a #5 fuel plate in stock position and AFC full forward. Runs pretty good but don't want to give up towing reliability for more grunt!! It's all a trade off!

The only thing I have to ad is: If you or your F-I-L buy it, run it to the local Dodge dealer and have them run VIN# to make sure all the recalls have been performed on it.
