Pulling a Truck

While on vacation a trucker (and I use the term loosely) came to my in-laws house for some help. He had pulled off the road and his drivers were in the grass and he couldn't get traction.

I went up and hooked up to the truck and pulled him backwards (down the grade) to get his drivers back on the pavement but he cranked his steering hard and put the trailer halfway across the other lane thus blocking almost the entire two lane road.

Not sure what was wrong but when he let the clutch out the driveshaft would not even begin to turn.

I then went around to the front and my FIL kept telling him to move the truck to the right over the fog line.

I pulled him a good distance up a grade to get him out of the road and you can see how he didn't want to go across the fog line. The shoulder was solid and easily supported the truck. He was supposedly fully loaded so close to 80,000 lbs. Broke my 20,000 lb tow strap 3 or 4 times.

I had to do the video while driving so you can't see much of the grade but I was surprised how well it turned out.

Hope the video works.

I would think if he kicked in his diff. interlock he coulda backed down the grade and back onto pavement...but who knows. Nicely done, though. I've pull started trucks before in flat lots, but never tried it upa hill
