That's impressive for any engine. Especially a PSD.

Great for him! I am looking forward to seeing that kind of life with my Cummins! I have been told that I should easily see it with my engine, but the rest of the truck will be exhausted! Seriously, there isn't any reason a well maintained and properly assembled vehicle couldn't go so well.

My dad has a '90 with the Cummins and the body is still in great shape. He only has about 290,000 miles on it as he is retired and on limited income. He has had to rebuild the 5 speed tranny about 3 times and this past January he had to replace the injector pump. Still other than air conditioning compressor and a couple of leaks around the injector pump he has had very few problems.

Steve,

tell your dad to overfill that Getrag by 1 quart... should keep it alive for another couple hundred thousand miles.

I overfilled mine after it started making a slight bearing noise in certain situations... the noise went away, and that was ~5-6k miles ago. but the Getrag is FAMOUS for overheating due to insufficient lubrication at the recomended fluid level. an extra quart of fluid takes care of the problem
