Lightbulb Ok, With all this hype about torque and HP

Here is what I found this afternoon. I went to each of the Big Three's sites and compared their Diesel engines by a per cylinder basis. The results shouldn't shock you

SPECS:

Ford: Powerstroke (Powerdud)
v8
6.4l
350 hp
650 ft-tq

Gm: Duramax (Dudmax)
v8
6.6l
300 hp
650 ft-tq

Dodge: Cummins
Inline 6
5.9l
325 hp
610 ft-tq

Results

Ford per cylinder:
.8l
43.75 hp
81.25 ft-tq

Gm per cylinder:
.825l
37.5 hp
81.25 ft-tq

Dodge per cylinder:
.983l
54.16 hp
101.67 ft-tq

Well this small test explains why we all like Dodge-Cummins packages. A friend at work told me this just the other day. His sister works at a Dodge dealership in the warrenty claims department. Out of all the vehicles dodge makes, their trucks has the fewest claims. She said the ones with the diesels were fewest of all. Hmmmmmmm....

Stuff to think about,

You mean:

Dodge: Cummins
Inline 6
6.7l
350 hp
650 ft-tq

Dodge per cylinder:
1.11l
58.3hp
108.3ft-tq (that's more torque than a lot of econoboxes out there!)

yep, dieselstop is Ford, ...place is dmax. They love to beat up on us Cummins guys real bad. According to many of the dmax folks there is no other diesel motor to consider, so watch out if you post over there. Kinda' too bad to, 'cause it'd be fun to discuss more stuff with some of them but the brand wars kick in and then it's over.

DieselTruckResource --------------------- Dodge...

They don't even have the right letters in the name of this site to spell Dodge?

Guess I've learned from some here to take the high-road when visiting other sites. Try to keep the information pertinent to the topic and stay away from the war games some play. Mostly I just read posts and see what's going on. Be careful if you post a link to a topic in any site as the site cannot contain any objectional content (bad language, adult content, ect.).

The DieselStop is interesting. Posts there are really heating up over the '08s with the 6.4. With Ford and Navistar fighting, many wonder what will come of the PSD. Funn how the first thing folks mention is, "Hey, maybe they'll put a CAT in our trucks now." Not likely. Fun to mention that they can always move up to the big boys, F650+, and get a Cummins in it.

What I appreciate most about this site is that they keep it clean. I got busted when I posted a reply with a link to YouTube and the content was WAY to adult. Took my medicine and moved on, they (Top and admins.) were right.

Have fun, you will learn a ton.

Just under what I have for hp torque in my econobox right now. I have 90 and 120 (iffy on the 120 could be a bit less) in the Jetta.

dmax hasnt been 300/520 since late 2003

the new LMM (the newest one with the emmissions garbage) is 365hp and 660ft lbs of torque. They say peak torque is at 1600rpm, but im not convinced, peak dmax torque is more like ~1800rpm by my SOTP meter. Its no cummins down low, but at least its better than the PSD...ford says you gotta wind the 6.4 to 2200rpm for peak torque

My complaint about the D-Max is the durability/reliability issue. We are running 6 of them at our store and every one of them have been on the hook more times than I can could... Three have lost engines with undere 100K on them... Constantly in the shop or have stuff falling off of them.

It must have a real flat torque curve once past peak. Where is the hp peak at? 660 lb-ft and 365 hp says atleast past 2900 rpm.
