General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

oh nooooooo !!!!!!

I know I am going to open a can of worms
I went and did it
I bought a chebby

A new 06
Duramax

This is the first chebby I have owned in a long time

My cummins have all done me good

But GM supplier discounts

And other trade discounts got the better of me

I hope I wont regret it

I will still be sticking around here, but I will also need the same kind of advice on the chebby

Any sugestions on that end would be great

If your only wanting a 100K mile before you trade it in, it might last you that long.

To much electronic stuff on them, daytime running lights, cup heater/coolers, tells you all this non essential stuff on the dash, rainsense wipers....blah, blah, blah. I deal with Caddy's all day long and the amount of useless and sure to fail electronics GM has....

You've got warranty though....it's just missed time having to drop off/pick up from dealer for repairs. See people in here almost monthly with things going wrong. Our shop foreman says it's because we just see the bad side, not the good ones out there....but here lately with the new line I think his opinion is swaying towards junk status. Not trying to offend you, can't beat a good deal like you explained, just so much stuff that they think they have to put on them that makes reliability an issue. Hope it does good for ya, maybe you got one of the good ones I always here about!

Have to admit, I would strongly consider a GMC when I do trade - which is a loooong time away. Nice vehicle - congratualtions. Great Common Rail system, for sure.

Just a short update
Truck feels long and heavy
Made it to 150 mi. today (and still running) so far
Power is smooth
A/C is cold
milage seems to be about the same as the dodge
Small tires and no room to go bigger without a lift
Miss the cummins allready
But the cheby ride is smoother/softer
so far its ok

Ah bull biscuits... you know you're lovin' it!

Heck look what I traded my forth Cummins for. I ain't ashamed of it. It sounds like an animal! When I get tired of it, I'll likely have another Cummins Ram. They're addictive like the Harley of pickup trucks. Enjoy your Dmax/Allison. They're nice trucks. At least you didn't trade for a Forg. Forg owns Cummings but they don't use them in their trucks...yadda yadda...

So how's that 6spd Allison feel?

Its your money. Do what u want with it. I dont think any one can deny that they are good running trucks. They are capable of making 500rwhp on a program and a stock turbo. Contrary to what everyone seems to think, the allison is not indestructible Everyone thinks that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are a great transmission for stock power but everyone thinks that they can throw 500 hp without any problems because "its got the allison". The steering and ride of the dodge has improved greatly but IMO the chevy is still #1 as far as that goes. Hope you have good luck with it and it serves you well. Now if you would have bought a ford
