this was not good
hi all,
my brother in law has a 06 dodge 2500.took it to his mechanic to have oil changed and other service.the mechanic uses Carquest for parts.a Carquest branded oil filter was put on the truck. on his way back fom memphis,he lost oil pressure and all sorts of dash lights came on.he checked under the hood and noticed there was oil dripping from the bottom of the filter.no oil showed on the dipstick.he looked further and the bottom of the oil filter had split open about 1" .truck was towed back to the shop.everyone and their grandmother was notified about this.Carquest corporate suggested putting on another filter and seeing what happens. well the engine sounds terrible. it is twice as loud as before.metal to metal sounds from everywhere. after looking at the filter, the bottom of it is paper thin.obvious manufacture defect. truck is now at a dealer awaitng final decisions on repair.
Carquest wants to rebuild it.We are saying NO.

part 2
Finally resolved
After much back and forth negotations, the truck is in the shop and getting a new engine.Wix only wanted to pay for certain things. But Carquest stepped up and insisted that ALL expenses related to the failure be paid .

part 3
well it just kept getting better.
my brother got the call to come get the truck a couple mondays ago.he was to go on thursday to get it.the dealer called him thursday morning and said Wix had refused to pay for it.Wix was complaining about having to replace the turbo.the mechanic confirmed the turbo was bad.anyways,my brother called Carquest and informed them what was going on and that he was dealing with Carquest and not Wix and that Carquest would have to fight with Wix.Carquest called back and was furious that Wix would not honor the agreement.Carquest arranged with the dealer to to cover the entire bill and we picked up the truck that thursday afternoon.
Once again Carquest came thru.

Sorry to hear about the problems and glad to hear it is getting resolved.
This is an example of a reason I do all my own oil changes and only use Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035 filters.
Carquest is doing the right thing!

Glad it turned out good. With a distibutor as big as Carquest I'm amazed that Wix would even open their mouth. When my wife's durango went for an oil change they put a Carquest filter on it...and the wrong oil. It needs 5w20 for MDS and I know they 5w30 in because it had no ***** and got bad mpg. Now I change it. I guess the only one you can count on is yourself.

Well that's good to hear. I always had used the Napa branded Wix filter and just switched to the Fleetguard yesterday. The fleetguard does seem like a heavier duty filter.

Wow, what year is it? That is incredible that in this day and age Carquest stepped up on this. Sounds like customer service of old! I will certainly keep this in mind when shopping for auto related stuff.

As much as people complain about Fram filters in my experience they stand behind their products 100% if they fail and cause damage.
Too bad they fail so often that I know this to be true.
Can't say the same about Fleetguard.
There were two separate incidents on the TDR website where engines were ruined by cracked Fleetguards. One guy fought Dodge for over six months and still ended up paying for a new engine. Dodge's excuse was because the dealer didn't change the oil and filter it wasn't covered even by warranty.
The other fellow was luckier and got a new engine for free but it still took weeks of haggling.

I worked at a place and thats all we used (Wix) on our big Detroits. Never had a problem. I have always liked Wix filters, but I also never heard of them doing something like that. I guess thats why I am putting in a mechanical oil pressure guage. I can't afford a new motor in my truck.
