Red face No substitute for common sense

I was in a local heavy equipment dealers shop yesterday and saw something horrible. One of their mechanics called in a couple days ago because the engine in his service truck died. He was pulling a hill, it started losing power and then just died. It would turn over but not fire. They towed the truck in and had another shop mechanic check it for codes, no codes. Checked the filter and it had fuel. Pulled the air filter and gasp, it was plugged solid. As soon as the filter was removed the truck fired right up. Now the scary part, I have to deal with these guys all the time because I own three machines that they sell and service. As a matter of fact I have two machines in there now for repairs. Horrible, simply horrible that anyone would let a filter get that bad let alone a mechanic who had just serviced his truck a week ago.

"A plumber's faucet always leaks."

I would not worry about it too much. I was at one of the best plumbing houses intown. I went into the bathroom and sure enough, the faucet was leaking.

Sometimes the guys in the shop care more for other peoples vehicles than their own.

Or the Fire Chiefs house. He had the scariest display of unsafe homeowner wiring in his attic I have ever seen. Took me 2 days to straighten it all out.

There is one universal truth in this world. The mechanics car never works.

The worst engine (gasser) I ever seen tore down was owned by a local tow/repair shop. Even I could tell they never changed the oil. No big loss it was a chevy.
I know a couple of great local mechanics that do very good work but neglect their own vehicles. It seems they work on cars / trucks all day long, the last thing they want to do in the evenings is repair / maintain their own stuff

An airfilter can clog up fast.
I found out when my truck died after mice stuffed the airbox full of insulation they collected from under the hood.

I'm an auto tech/mechanic and the last thing I want to do is come home and diag my junk...other peoples cars with cash in hand....when do I start. My saturn has 216,000 miles, burns oil. If I drive it all week, about 650 miles it will burn off more than a quart almost 2. The check engine light comes on once in awhile, egr code, probably the valve...don't care, won't bother anything.

My exploder is pushing 200,000. Have not done much to it. Run Mobil 1 in it, take care of all fluids. Check engine light comes on in it too. Found a weird ignition switch ground circuit code in it. Believe it's the GEM module, but don't have $300 I want to part with right now....plus, it ain't hurting nothing. The coolant temp gauge in the cluster went out years ago, so I bought an coolant temp gauge from the parts house, mounted it under the dash and it has given no trouble. I care enough to maintain them and milk them for all they are worth....the paychecks I get for fixin GM's warrantied edit boxes....priceless....or worthless

My edit is always sano.

When my clients look at my rides, all they can see is cool stuff . I feel this is the only way to stay credible.

I got sick of working on my older truck....so I bought a new one! Insert fuel, turn key, mail payment.

Now they all think I'm making too much money

I'm confused here. Should I purchase a house built by a mechanic, just to be sure it was built correct? And buy my vehicles from a carpenter to be sure they been maintained correctly?

My logic is getting illogical.
