Newbie Introduction

Hello all!! I am going to be buying a 2500 CTD next summer and want to get familiar with these trucks through this site. Here is what I have in my mind right now:
- '98-'02
- 2500
- 4x4
- long bed
- quad cab
- manual tranny

I will def. be keeping it stock for a while. The heaviest thing I can see towing would be a car hauler with my Jeep on it. At most I will put a leveling kit on it and run some 35's.

I have a few newbie questions so bear with me, were the NV5600 trannys offered in 2500 series trucks? What year is the 12v/24v cutoff? Were the KDPs used in both engines? What are the stock HP and TQ numbers for 12v and 24v?

Thats about all I can think of now. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Pretty sure on the tranny.

1998.5 is the 12v/24v switchover.

KDP could be a problem up to 2000.

Don't know, check out http://dodgeram.org/support_pgs/diesel_ix.htm , he has the specs listed.

Welcome to the board.

The 6 speed was only offered with the HO (ETH) engines.

I thought it only came standard with the HO, but could be had with the SO for a little cash?

It was a mandatory option with the HO and cost $400. This brought the HO price to $5600 ($5200 for the engine, $400 for the 5600) Only the 5 speed was available with the SO. Maybe that's the little amount of cash you were thinking of?

Thanks for the welcomes! After only being on here a day or so, I think I have my future truck more narrowed down now. Here goes:
-'02 2500 HO 6spd.
- 4x4
- Long bed
- Quad Cab

I want that 6 speed tranny. I want a drive train that has a proven track record of never failing. And I know you all said I will mod the heck out of the truck, but in all reality I get enough speeding tickets on stock vehicles. My latest one was a 66 in a 40. In PA thats 5 points, at 6 points you lose your license. I dont think I will need any more power than this truck is going to provide.
