General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

New member has some questions

I am a total diesel rookie so please forgive my ignorance.

I have been thinking of getting into small farm biodiesel

production and have some questions.

I am looking for a pre-electronic truck for hauling/towing;

standard or auto.

When did these go out of production?

Will they run on biodiesel?

Can the old powertrains be swapped into newer pickups without a lot of modifications or breaking the bank?

Also, any info/recommendations on non-electronic diesel tractors and generators would be welcome.

Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

When did these go out of production? 1998 was the last year for Dodge. Late '98 Dodges had the 24 valve electronic engine. '93 for GM, and '94 for Ford.

Will they run on biodiesel? Yes.

Can the old powertrains be swapped into newer pickups without a lot of modifications or breaking the bank? Depends on what kind of functionality you want. If you just want it to drive down the road, you can bolt it in there and drive. If you want the tach and automatic trans to work "factory" you have some interesting wiring to do.

Also, any info/recommendations on non-electronic diesel tractors and generators would be welcome.

My comments in red.

Are those models completely non-computer controlled? I am looking for something that could survive an electromagnetic pulse, should such a thing ever happen.

On '92 and newer Dodges the computer runs the charging system and the overdrive on automatic trans models. All the engines I mentioned have no electronic controls.

Thanks man, that helps a lot.

Anybody know anything about the tractors or generators, or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks
