Hmmm... it appears we are going to have to sell the Cummins and get a Ford, now that 350 hp and 650 tq is low... I did read about their testing and if they tested it the way they said, it should be a good motor...

but what a nightmare to work on...

I think I'll keep our 6.7...

Impressive numbers - if they come through on the production side.

I know you can already get a 6.7L Cummins rated at 325hp/750tq in an F750, so the potential is there....I wonder how Dodge/Cummins and GM will respond?

I don't like how they coppied GM's Turbo configuration in the valley. And i'm interested in the other companies responses too.

My $.02 ...

...by way of followup.
  1. If the new Ford 6.7 gets the same or worse mpgs as the current 6.4 (12 mpg) I'd rather have the 18-20mpg of the CTD 6.7 and 350/650*.
  2. I'm not sure the CTD 6.7 can be tweaked to match (stock) the 400/725 of the new Ford. I read somewhere that the CTD 6.7 was just barely 2010 emissions legal. Any tweaking would most likely push it over the top, unless they went with SCR (urea) I guess .

*'Ya know, I'm guessing my truck is at about 300/500 with the mods. It's very rare that I think "gee I wish this thing had a little more power", and consider I frequently tow a 10k lb. toyhauler on long, 7% grades out west. In fact, in all the years and miles of towing I've only been passed twice by other trucks pulling large travel trailers (once I let a hill east of Green River, UT pull me down because I was going to exit in a couple of miles anyway, the other time traveling south into Pocatello, ID, I just simply got schooled by a duramax going 10 over). It's not like I can't run at or above the speed limit 98% of the time. Not bad for an SO.

Good point. Maybe 350/650 will be just fine as long as you don't have a pee tank.....I know urea is going to be a big "minus" up here in Canada. When it drops to -40* and you have to add urea...go to pour the jug and it is frozen solid......

I was just kidding about trading our 6.7, after coming from a 2000 3/4 ton dodge with the 5.9 auto to this, I will never go back (wifey really likes the newer truck, we can actually talk while driving down the highway, not sure if thats good or not...). It has all the power I need and with the egr unplugged I get real decent fuel economy as well. The new ford motor should be good, could be some interesting times...

Regarding the urea tank up here, yea that is not popular with the OTR guys, my brother-in-law looks after the OTR trucks, etc and they are buying a bunch of trucks, before the urea thing comes into play. He was saying they might have different rules for the "way up north" guys as the manufacturers can't keep the urea from freezing yet.

That turbo looks scary on the Scorpion. With all the trouble they had with a variable vane turbo on the 6.0, I can only imagine the cost of a replacement Honeywell anything..

You know it's funny. This is what I heard when the 6.0 was about to come out. I was over on a Ford site arguing with those guys about a V8 vs. a I6 design. I was considering buying a Ford diesel at the time instead of the Dodge I eventually purcahsed. The one thing that was stated so often was "No way would Ford / Navistar put out an engine without testing it to the death! Look how many miles they put on these things. This thing is gonna kick **** and take names! I no longer fall for that garbage. Call me when they have a bunch of real world trucks over 100K miles with no big issues.

You know what would throw everyone for a loop... If dodge offered a Cummins option rated at like 300/600 that emphasized on MPG. It's nice winning a race up hill but in the flats getting 20mpg is even better.

Or yet, even cooler would be a factory 3 stage power offering so you can get better mpg and still win races up hill.

I don't think the HP is going to mean much if the truck gets 10-12mpg like the current 6.4L. Several weeks ago I talked to a local diesel shop and said it's the biggest gripe with the 6.4L customers. They are just happy to spend a bunch of money on a Spartan tune just to get it up to 15-16mpg.
