My brother in law is a Mercedes Benz salesman (#2 in the US) and has been sent to Germany for training and test drives several times. A year or two ago he came back from training in Europe. He was told by some big-wig at MB that in 06 or 07 the Dodge diesel trucks will come with the Cummins standard, and a BIG MB diesel as an option. Can you imagine the cost of that bad boy? It would have to be 40K + if it said MB anywhere on it. Rumors are 450+ HP and close to 1000 ft/lbs of torque. By 2007 or 2008 it is possible that all of the motors would be made by MB. So here is the question, how many of you would go with a powerhouse MB motor over the Cummins, even if the Cummins was upped to 400hp stock?

OUR CUMMINS ENGINES BARELY FIT....IN ORDER TO HAVE 1000 FT LBS OF TORQUE IN A ENGINE RELIABLE ENOUGH TO DRIVE OVER 250,000 MILES IT WOULD HAVE TO BE OVER 8 LITERS.......SORRY to yell but you cant do this to people like me i get too excited! :-*

don't get me wrong, I am sure Ford makes a good truck. My own personal preference is the Dodge. My father-in-law lives and dies by the ford. He always tells me if only the the Ford had a cummins. I think alot of people feel that way.

I am not sure if I could bring myself to drive a Ford even with the Cummins engine.

I've always liked Fords, but loved the the Cummins. For me, that would be the perfect marriage! ;D

I would not mind a MB engine in the Dodge if they offered it with more HP and torque and the Cummins. I would worry about the price. Anything MB has big $$$ attached to it.

Re:New Engine For Dodge in 2006
If they're going to put an 8L MB diesel in the Ram, they're gonna have to redesign the whole front end, suspension, steering, etc. Might not be a bad thing at all.
Gotta do something spectacular, as Chrysler is sinking a little.

Re:New Engine For Dodge in 2006
I was talking to a Cummins guy this weekend down at the KYconvention center and he was talking about the "50 state legal" engine. he never said anything out right but would hit around and kinda give us a wink if we were right :
one of the things he said was that Cummins had used EGR on many of the other engines and with the liquid cooled EGT it has been a lot better but some of the same areas that get sooted up still happen but on a lot smaller scale. He also said that when it came out we would be very happy with it. he kinda leaned tward More Hp with a
and a ;D don't really know but we went around about the 24v lift pumps and injection pumps :-

i think this thread just just be stopped KNOWONE knows what engine we will have in 2007. 5 pages of rumors.....

Rumors?
Everyone knows that the 2006-7 Dodge trucks will be built with the dilithium based blue coil Vapor/Pulse engine.
My neighbors brothers best friends roomate has it on good authority that this engine has been refined since it was discovered in that space ship that crashed in the New Mexico desert out side of Roswell. :-X

Personally, I think that by 2005 or 2006 we will see news that the DC and Cummins contract has been extended. The have a long working relationship, and they kinda need each other now.
Yeah, maybe the germs are stifling the competition. I hope they view Cummins as a partner, not as competition.

I hear Dodge will be using an inline 4cyl in 2005.
Of course that depends on whether they get the smaller 4cyl version of this completed in time. http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/

Re:New Engine For Dodge in 2006
As far as a new engine in '07 or '08 we can all guess, but Mercedes can certainly build good diesels if they want to. They have also built some fragile ones. They probably have one they can simply pull of the shelf for the Dodge. All it has to be is a V-8 so it can have bigger displacement for a given length. If they can put a truck together with over 400 HP stock and advertise it as a Mercedes I think it would sell very well (and kick some serious b--- in the process). But count me out as I like the Cummins and will have to see something made out of iron that is really spectacular before I'd consider it.
Have you guys checked out the new Toureg diesel? Read about it in, I think, Popular Science. It has more power and torque than the Cummins!
