Wrong forum???

This is an aftermarket performance turbo for 2nd and 3rd gen trucks. Why is it here?

I'd like to know who at Edge told you this.

A turbo can go on dang near any engine, even though this one is a direct bolt on for the 2nd and 3rd gens it isn't limited to just that application. And since it applies to 2nd and 3rd gens it can stay here in General Diesel.

I read an article in one of my 4 wheel and off road mags that featured the Edge ball bearing turbo on a powerstroke. The thing in that article that sticks in my mind was the spool up time of the ball bearing turbo versus the stock turbo was the BB turbo spun up to speed much faster than stock.

When I get home I will see if I can dig up that magazine and post more on it.

Ok, I dug up more info as promised from an old issue of Petersens 4 Wheel and Off-Road magazine, August 2003.

This particular turbo was designed for the 7.3L Powerstroke 99½ - 03. The Pwerstoke came factory equipped with a Garrett turbo with a 3 inch inlet. The ATS turbo has a 4 inch ported shroud inlet (same design as our Holset turbos).

Heres what the ATS turbo did for the Ford :

* Put out 10 PSI more boost
* Spooled up significantly faster than the stock Garrett
* Reduced EGTs by 200 degrees onthe truck they featured
* The turbo whine changed somewhat. The state in the magazine that the new turbo has a turbo whine that is unique to ball bearing turbos.

The price for that turbo was approx $2,000 in that article. But that was in '03.

Looks promising for the Cummins if they put it into production.

That would be sweet. I don't see why they would do all of this advertising and stuff if they are just going to scrap the project. IT sounds like a nice turbo. Would help some of us sigle turbo guys out or would make a sweet twins set up, Duel BB turbos!

I am running one of these edge BB turbos and I love the performance, It does a very good job. I don't see why they would scrap the project either.

The project is not being scrapped. Just one persons' incorrect interpretation of a conversation. If it was, why would they advertise the turbo this month in Diesel Power Mag, the TDR mag, etc?

So these are back on the market now? What did they change to help with durability? IIRC Lenny Reed pop'ed one during testing and Bhanner on the NWBombers had one which the ball bearings failed within about 20minutes of installation? Been wrong before though.

The bearings never failed. The first production run had turbine wheel and shafts built of inconel that were not to the spec. Once changed back to the spec, all is well again.

I've been running mine for about 3 months.....no problems. Spools nicely, very good flow and power at 38 - 40 lbs. max boost.
