Has anyone used the new EDGE turbo on there 1st gen or know of anyone that has?

 

I read a article in the Diesel Power Mag and was under the impression that it was for the newer motors. It seems like all the good parts are made for the 1994 to current Cummins. There were some good points but I felt you could get something compareable from High tech turbo and less $$ too. Jethrro

 

Most every turbo even on a second gen 12 & 24 valve engine will fit our trucks. The HX-35 is a direct replacement for our stock lag-masters and if I remember correctly anything up to a 98 will work. I didn't know that either until I started looking around for a replacement housing for my 93. If that HX-35 fits I would imagine there's others too. Good luck! Chuck

 

Any turbo up to at least 02 or whenever they stopped using the vp44 pump will work. However they will take some modification to work on a 1st gen. Because they have a wastegate in the exhaust housing it is about 1.5" longer. So the down pipe will have to be moved back the appropriate amount. Now if you have a non I/C model you will have to do some fab work for your fresh air crossover pipe.

Also the exhaust housings are interchangeable between all the holset turbos used on these engines.
