Being employed in the government sector where new Government regs hit first it looks like the demise of personal diesel vehicles in at least Calif is just around the corner. New regs required by the end of 07 call for retrofitting all diesel powered trucks and machinery including: backhoes,trucks,loaders,bobcats etc with particulate filters on the exhaust along with a slew of other ungodfully expensive equiptment. The regs also call for any contractor with a "contract" with a municipality to comply with these regs or you will not do buisness with them. Per yesterdays meeting with the APCD these regs will be passed over to the general public and their diesel vehicles within a period of time. Considering the cost involved to make your rig Cal happy isnt and option it seems. I`ll post any new info I am made aware of as I get it.

 

Are you saying that almost ALL diesel engines will have to comply with the new requirements by the end 07?
If a person buys a new 2006 diesel truck will have to retrofit his or hers engine with smog devices at their expense?

 

You might want to do a little searching on "ex post facto" laws. Should this be attempted, the courts will be filled with challenges.
