Need to find good used Dodge diesel...but where?

Well, here comes another question.

I am looking for vehicle like this:

2004 Dodge 3500 HO Cummins
4X4 6-spd manual
Quad Cab (not a full 4-door or crew cab)
full box (8ft)
duallys (DWR)

hopefully with:
Jacobs or other exhaust brake
Laramie SLT
Tow/Camper package

My question: What do you think are the best sites and sources ..Internet or otherwise...for finding and buying a good used diesel pickup like the one I described above?

So far I have found autotraderonline.com...cars.com....traderonline.co m

Do you folks know of any other good ones? Nationwide is fine with me...I need a good roap trip. Thanks.

Thanks for that, H2...

Hah!..That's ironic about finding your Dodge that close to home. Hope I get so lucky! So far I have looked at about 50 without finding the right one.

Hey..if I have to wait 7 years maybe I will be buying one running on soy bean oil or $1 per gallon diesel?

Thats the early 04 you want? What kind of mileage are you looking for? Price range. I'll put the exhaust brake on mine and sell it to ya!

Thanks anyway, Tree Dr..I see yours has over 100K....which is okay, but I am looking at 60K or less, white, dually, leather, non-smoker....might take me a while!

I've had good luck on autotrader.com
Unfortunately I never have the money when I find those sweet trucks.

Pompano,

I also had very specific requirements when I was shopping for a used Ram, right down to the colors. I was willing to travel nationwide for the right truck.

I ended up doing a manual search through the Dodge.com website and looking for used trucks on Dodge dealer lots. On the left side of their website is a "Find a Dealer" field using ZIP codes. Start with your home ZIP code and bring up a list of local dealers. For each listing click on the the "Visit Dealer Website" link, and then find the "preowned inventory" link. You can then choose 2500 and 3500 Rams and see what they have used. Expand your search to nearby states. You can use google to find ZIP codes for large nearby cities.

Once you have a list of trucks that are possibilities, email each dealer to see if they still have the truck and to ask specific questions.

I ended up finding my truck near Branson, MO (8 hours away) and bought it sight unseen. It's exactly what I was looking for, and I'm very happy with my decision to buy it.

Hope this helps.

There are usually some nice trucks on the classified here and on TDR. Also, I like the smaller truck/car books. Like autorv.com, their website isn't good, but they have books that are free throughout the midwest. I actually searched for months for my truck. I found what I wanted 30 minutes away, and I was looking 4 hours+ away. I got lucky I guess, one of the last 03s in my configuration left at the end of 2003.

Good luck,
Nick
