Need advice.. 2nd gen vs 3rd gen...

hey guys..

I'll keep this short because I'm sure it's posted somewhere on the site...

I'm looking at trading my 05 in for either a 2006 or 2007 (6.7)...

I have a great deal on both but need to know what everyone here thinks...

Which will run me less in operating costs, (only light duty towing 20' trailer and normal unloaded driving) I currently am getting 22-24mpg from the 05, I've had no real "other" costs... Just standard maint.

I've heard the 3rd gen not getting great mpg... is this so...?

Which would you choose?

Thanks!

Well your 05 is a 3rd gen not a 2nd. I had a 2nd gen 01.5 & love my 3rd gen 05 even more. I sure don't get the mileage out of my 05 like you get out of yours. My 01.5 did get over 20, but the 05 18.5 is it's best. I did hear the 6.7 didn't get as good of mileage.

If you're getting that good mileage out of your truck it's definitely a keeper. Why would you want to get rid of it? And it is a 3rd gen BTW.

I think I understand what you're asking...is the mileage on a 6.7L as good as the mileage on a 5.9L? Well, in stock form NO. BUT, I have read that a lot of guys on this site with the 6.7L cummins are getting decent fuel mileage once they removed some of the emissions equipment.
But just to be clear
94-02 are 2nd generation (all came with 5.9L)
03-09 are 3rd generation (all 07.5 and up came with 6.7L)
10up are (I think) 4th generation (so far all have 6.7L)

Since your getting fantastic mileage out of your 05 I would keep it!!! Nothing wrong with wanting a new truck (I do sometimes) but if your 05 is treating you good, no reason to trade it in.
