California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger teamed up with rapper Xzibit to "pimp" a '65 Chevy Impala on an upcoming episode of MTV's hit show Pimp My Ride.

Schwarzenegger, Mad Mike and the crew of Pimp My Ride give the Impala an ecological make over on the show's season premiere, which takes place on Earth Day (Apr. 22).

"I would like to thank MTV and the entire Pimp My Ride crew for shining the spotlight on the importance of alternative fuels and the fight against global warming," Governor Schwarzenegger said in a statement. "I am very encouraged by the great potential in converting vehicles to run on biodiesel as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "I am pleased that the power of MTV's message will reach an audience throughout California and the nation to reinforce the benefits of alternative-fuel vehicles and protecting our environment."

The special edition features the Impala getting an 800 horsepower Duramax diesel engine that will run on biodiesel fuel, educating viewers during the show about the benefits of ecological friendly cars.

"What better way to celebrate the anniversary of our Break the Addiction campaign than pimping the environment with a pro like Governor Schwarzenegger - a powerful voice in the fight against climate change," added Christina Norman, President, MTV. "During the past year, we've reached millions, giving our audience the tools they want to make changes in their own lives. The state of our environment is one of the most critical issues facing our audience today and we're honored that we can inspire and educate even more as we celebrate Earth Day with this special Pimp My Ride event."

I can't think of anything more environmentally friendly than an 800 hp Duramax .

If Arnold was so serious, he would promote legislation allowing Diesel conversions in his state.

Theres a reason they used a 65 Impala........and it wasnt because it was a cool car.

 

Will an overfueled bio-diesel car smoke like the old #2?

 

Would the cummins fit into the old muscle cars very easily? Could you just beef up the suspension and "drop it in" so to speak?

maybe a mid 70's caddy,or do what jay leno did and convert a toronado to rear wheel drive.toros and eldorados have lots of room under the hood.

 

saw a pic of a 50 Mercury on another site with a cummins 6 in it. Looked like it fit pretty good. Few details though.

 

He sold them to get re-elected. He was falling back in the polls, and there was a lot of talk about he talked a big game, but owned gas guslers. (They weren't even smart enough to know the difference between gas, and diesel fuel )
So a few weeks before last falls elections, he had them up for auction. But there is a good chance that he ended up with them in the end.

 

haha, can't wait to see that show. It'll be interesting, because depending on the setup an 800 hp motor may not be the most fuel efficient vehicle to drive....And since the production of biofuels is primarily fueled by fossil fuels, a biofuel guzzling vehicle isn't really ecologically friendly.

 

i hate to be the bearer of bad news..but has biodiesel proven to be any less polluting? i thought the biggest news with bio was teh fact that it would be easing the stress over petrolium needs?


and yeah, appearing with "pimp my ride" which is more concerned with putting 18 TV's in a honda civic..thats brilliant. i say its a good thing their not using a cummins...cuz after that episode airs the duramax forums are gonna be awash in "can i fit a duramax in my ____________" threads lol

 

the point of biodiesel isn't so much about lower emissions, it is more about staying inside the annual carbon cylce and not pulling ancient carbon out of the ground and putting it into the atmosphere. Texas seems to be the only state complaining about biodiesel not being clean enough.

reading this just about made me gag. i am into biodiesel and fuel economy and the fact that these mtv idiots are promoting an 800hp impala as being "earth friendly" just because it can burn biodiesel is more damaging to the alternative fuels movement than helpful. The stupidity and hypocrisy are so obvious that most even partly intelligent people are going to just roll their eyes and stop paying attention altogether.

We're supposed to celebrate "break the addicition" by powering a heavy full size american car with a giant over-powered V8? We are soo doomed!
