We're supposed to celebrate "break the addicition" by powering a heavy full size american car with a giant over-powered V8? We are soo doomed!
My friend has an 809 HP cummins and he still gets 18 MPG with it, so what's the problem??

There was 2 PT cruisers in the SEMA show a few years back one had a Fuel Injected 426 Hemi, and the other had a viper v-10 in it.

You think an 800 hp duramax gets that kind of mileage? I think not! I doubt if the duramax would get 18 off the showroom floor, let alone after being "pimped" by MTV.

And besides, yeah, 18 mpg is great mileage for a truck, but that is still not the kind of mileage that in the long run is going to "break the addiction". If you want to celebrate breaking the addiction, pimp a TDI passat or something.

yes it will still smoke, although i dont think there will be near as much smoke. I know when i run a 25-20% blend in my truck i can see quite a drop in smoke.

I run my truck with the 450-500 rwhp tune in it all the time, I have 35" tires, and I get 18 mpg empty pretty much all the time. If I baby it I can get 19-19.5 mpg. And this is hand calulated filling it up to the tip top of the neck.
I used to get 20-21 mpg with a 400 rwhp tune and 33's.
You have to remember that with a diesel to max rwhp don't effect mileage to much as long as you drive sensible. So a little 3500# car with the Duramax should get 22-25 mpg at any rwhp as long as it is drove right. (It may even get close to 30!)

I agree with that. My truck gets better mileage now than it ever did stock. I can pull down 20-22 mpg consistently if I drive decent and that is with the same tune I run high 12s with. You have to really go wild to hurt the mileage on these things. I think my towing mileage is quite a bit better than stock also. I'd still like to see a 70 Chevelle with a Duramax and the allison. Good mileage and should run 10s fairly easy if you hook it up. What does a Duramax engine weigh compared to a 760 pound 454.

If those bozos were really trying to show the value of bio diesel and diesel power in general they would take that diapermax and cut it in half and make it a 4 cylinder to show how it could do the same job in the impala that the old v-8 gasser did and get great mileage. But that would be too reasonable and practical not enough hollywood in that

It would actually be more environmentally damaging if biodiesel ever did replace diesel.
