Motor Trend Diesel Comparison
Well, we got dissed again. Got my new MT today, and they compared the Big 3 diesels. Out beloved CTD came in third. Basically, they didn't care for the 48RE, or the rough ride. The PSD came in first. They loved the "extra horsepower" over the Cummins. I said What? They're both rated at 325. Then I looked in the specs - said 305 for our Dodge, but 600 lb ft. So, they got it wrong, or the tested a 555 truck, and didn't know it.

Look and see how many Ford ads you see in their magazine vs Dodge ads.
why is it so hard for some people to believe that some one might like another truck better that the dodges
for "diesel guys" sure the cummins pagkaged in a real truck with it's rough ride, hard shifting tranny and low down tourque are the only choice, but to a gasser guy the other 2 ride more car like and they're diesels drive more like a hi reving gasser v8 so of course they're gonna pick it

Keep in mind that Motor Trend, while not being as interesting or technical as Road and Track, is still a Car magazine, not a Truck Magazine, and their road tester's priorities may not be the same as ours. I think it's kind of silly for them to test something when they really don't have an understanding of what the customer is looking to get out of it, but anyone who lets a car magazine make their truck buying decision for them gets what they deserve. It's kind of like RV World magazine having a car shootout, (the Diesel Jetta would beat the Ferrari because of it's bigger trunk and higher tow rating), Or including an article about golf (clearly not a sport), in Sports Illustrated. Wait a minute, that happens all the time!
MotorTrend is one of the reasons why Ford continues to do well in the US market in spite of having demonstrably inferior design and engineering in nearly all of its vehicles.
MotorTrend is romanced by Ford very hard, and it shows. When I was living in the Detroit area, doing contract work for various media outlets a few years ago, MT was regarded as an industry joke.

Isn't Motor Trend the one that picked that pile of junk Thunderbird as their "car of the year" in the mid '80's?
I was a little younger then, but after reading that I realized that their journalistic integrity had to be for sale to the highest bidder!

These magazines take turns jumping on and off the brand band wagon. One day they love something, the next they hate it. The only reason they love the Ford is because a new model is coming out. They NEVER diss a new model. I thought picking the new f150 over the titan was insane! Thats just the way it works though. They try to give everyone their moment in the sun.
A true educated buyer pays no mind to magazines at all, they research on the web and ask people that actually own these vehicles (like on this forum). I don't want someone else I don't know telling me what is the best for me, especially when it is possible that corporate $ influenced their decision.
Articles mean nothing, except to those that need a reason to justify a purchase or just need bragging rights.

I recieve a magazine from 4 wheel parts wholesalers and this month there was a article on diesel P.U.s they also rate the Ferd as best particulary the 6.0??? go figure. they also had some specs on the CTD HO engines that were interesting, ill have to post the ## they have for HP and TQ. I happened upon a local jeep/ferd dealer the other day and the whole back lot is lined up with PSDs just sitting there, Gee wonder why if there so good the way people but trucks around here.
