One more thing, a block under the go pedal. I've thought of that one a time or two myself.

He’s mostly looking for a truck that will get good mileage so I was wondering if anyone had numbers for Ford, Chevy, and of course Dodge. I don’t think he will buy a new truck so probably a 2005 or 2006. That would make the Dodge a 5.9 right? Anyway, if anyone knows some numbers I would greatly appreciate it. He’s found some Strokers that claim 22 off the overhead but that can be off.

Also, any other recommendations or considerations would be welcome.
IF mileage is a big concern, why is he looking at such big trucks?

Find an older half-ton with an 8ft bed and a small little gutless engine that gets good mileage.

No need for a diesel truck here. He can do better for his intended usage.

I love my truck, but it's not the right tool for EVERY job-- just for making me happy!

Not all gas trucks get good mpg. I had a 2005 Dodge 1500 QC SB w/4.7L auto and the CTD gets 4.5 mpg better on the Hwy then the 4.7L could.

DBLR, I couldn't agree more. My 2004 F150 with a V6 and 5-speed manual trans barely gets 19MPG with 75% highway miles, and it's only 2wd and single cab. My 2000 Silverado, same setup, was about the same under the same conditions. So to say the least, I've lost faith in the smaller engine - better mileage argument for a full size pickup truck. Maybe for a mid or small size truck it would be better.

I average out to about 17 - 17.5 on my 07. Friend of mine has an 06 Ford F250 PS that can barely get 13-14. He's stumped. His old 7.3 got much better than that according to him. Don't know any numbers on the Duramax but I would bet they'd get better than the Ford.

Unloaded I dont think there is a whole lot of diffrence between them but when you start loading them down is when the diffrences come out between the big 3. What I have seen duramax and dodge are the about the 2 best as far as mileage are concerned.

Mr T since when is a U.S. mile different than a Canadian mile? A mile is a mile. 5280 feet if I remember my figures.
Just had to ask. LOL.

I second the 1/2 ton idea- I had a 2000 GMC w/ a 5.3 that got 20.2(best ever) and was hardly ever under 17mpg, and i'm kind of rough on things... They are not very stout tho- I had a bumper pull trailer with 12k of firewood and I cracked my frame about an inch ahead of where the reciever mounts! BUT, normal people wouldn't do that!
