*********** wants WHAT for a turbo boot!?

Well I blew the turbo boot closest to the intercooler on the passenger/turbo side a few days ago on my '96 2500 5spd 4x4. Has a pretty big tear from rubbing against the metal that's right there. The tear's about 2 or 3 fingers wide (yeah, I stuck my fingers in there lol). It's still drivable, it just has no bawls, makes a very loud and annoying whistling noise heard above the already loud turbo whistle, and it's killing my mileage.

Anyhoo, I moseyed on down to my not-so-local ***********, and asked em how much for the thingamajigger. They quoted me $140.29 (w/ tax. p/n 5202-7990-ab) for a single boot! $140.29!! And that's with the "discount" they'll give me for wearing my old mechanic shop's shirt that's some kind of registered wholesale buyer from them...

Now, I could have sworn I've heard somewhere that somebody makes aftermarket boot kits that can be had for $60 or so, for ALL 4 boots... Cause $140.29 is just astronomical for a single rubber boot that's only about 8" long and 3" wide with a 45* bend in it don't yall think? I could see paying that much for all 4 boots WITH new clamps, but not for a single boot...

Does anyone have any idea where I can find me some aftermarket ones? Hopefully CHEAPER ones? I've tried NAPA, autozone, and advance auto parts, but none of em carried em.

I really caint afford $140 for a single boot after I accidentally made 3 truck payments this morning... Kinda left my wallet on the light side if you know what I mean. On the bright side, I won't have to make another truck payment till November 1st.

BD has a hose kit for like $80 (w/out clamps, I think). Geno's Garage has a kit w/spring loaded clamps that's good up to 75 psi boost for like $200. Plus, they're a pretty blue color.

Very bad idea to be driving with that boot damaged. Your EGTs will be through the roof!

I had a boot blow off my 98 climbing a grade and by the time I pulled it over (about 3 seconds), the guage was darn close to pegged at 1600*

Anyone happen to know the size of that boot? Random estimation (caint find my caliper), is 4"->3.5" reducer on a 45-degree bend.

Cause a 4"->3.5" 45-degree reducer on this page here is only $57.50 shipped (thanks alot rick). Just need to know the right size before I order

I was close Thanks again SPL. Was gonna order "das boot" from Pier's, but I talked to my local diesel shop today and they told me that pdr ships out from Canada, and that it's not at all uncommon for it to take up to 5+ weeks to receive your item... And I kinda need it a little sooner than a month from now lol.

Oh and yeah, I highly doubt I'll be blowing another boot because of it rubbing on that sheet metal that's right there.

I took me ol noggin knocker (24" long crescent wrench that opens up to 2 3/4") and pried that sharp edge back a good 3 or 4 inches. No more rubbin the boot for me! Also duct taped the heck outta the boot after bending out that seam. Seems to help a little bit. A bandaid for the real problem, till I can get that boot...
