Re:MB regulations
Yes they do own Detroit, as well as Western Star, Allison Transmissions, American LaFrance, and Freightliner. Just one big happy family.
In fact, Detroit is the main supplier for MB parts now.

Re:MB regulations
After talking to several tucking companies management, it soundl like at least for a little while for the class 8 trucks MB is the only one at this time that meets the epa requirements, that the other manufactures are trying to get their new lines ready. I dont know how much truth there is in this but I doubt that Cummuns, Detroit, Cat, and I/H or even Mack would let MB have the class 8 market.

Re:MB regulations
No, MB wont ever have the class 8 market with the engine they have. This is due in part to it only being a 12 ltr engine.
CAT, Cummins, Mack,Volvo and Detroit all have met the EPA requirments, in fact, Cummins was the first. All engine manufacturers went to EGR to meet requirements except for CAT. However they are having teething problems with the new twin turboed C15's and the rest of the ACERT lineup. I am starting to see alot of the EGR 60 Series Detroits in new trucks now. I have only seen one CAT ACERT engine and that was a C10 in a Sterling.
