California regulations

I am considering buying an out of state truck to bring back to Calif. From what I see on the DMV website as long as it has over 7500 miles it is ok, and being a diesel is smog exempt. Does anyone have first hand experience with those clowns in Sacramento? I don't want to get into a nightmare. The truck wouldn't have all the equipment calif trucks did of that year.(EGR)
Also was talking to folks at Dave Smith Motors, they don't offer a no cost short warrenty with their used trucks. Most dealers I have dealt with in the past give you 30 days or so. Any experience with this company? Thanks, John

Re:California regulations

You'd have to check the regs of the state where you are purchasing, but many states have a lemon law type of thing that says any dealer, new or used, must warranty the vehicle for at least 30 days.
As for Ca regs, I'm on the right coast and know nothing of Ca except that....well I'm not gonna start anything here.

Chris

Re:California regulations

I moved from Oregon to California, and was told by the DMV that my truck would need to be weighed (certifiede scale) and would be charged by weight, not by value. I'm not sure why.

In any case, I still run Oregon plates (as long as I can get away with it) because it's $35 (thirty five dollars) for two years, rather than the $350 (three hundred fifty) per year that the DMV estimated on a 7,500 pound truck.
