There is a TSB on this and, evidently, a fix if it bothers you.

What year is your truck, mysterystench? There is a TSB for belt chirp at shutdown on mine, (04). I am taking it to the dealer for a new underdrive pully when they get the part in.

Some of us had trouble with shredded belts as well. While "chirp" is normal on ALL diesels (my Ford PSD was very loud), the chirp does seem to stress the belts more than usual on the 3rd Gen engines. My original went at only 5400 miles, and the TSB did not exist at the time.

Most of the "shredders" were 04.5s and 05s. I don't mind the chirp (although the replacement Mopar belt, which is crosshatched, while the original OEM was simply ribbed) doesn't chirp as much, I do keep my eye on it.

If it starts to wear excessively again, I'll have the TSB done.

It's a great idea to carry a spare serpentine belt around, so ya won't be left on the side of the road!

Even better is a spare serpentine belt for a non-airconditioned model, so you don't have to have fits getting the bet on by the side of the road...
