A little advice from the third gen guys please!

I am going to have a look at this truck for my father tomorrow, I have never really kept up on third gen stuff because I cant afford to upgrade from my dinosaur. I am wondering if there is anything specific I should be looking at/for on this truck? Where do they commonly start to rust out first? We live in salt land in the winter, I know where to look on a 94-02 to check for rust even if it has been recently painted, but I do not know where to look on a 2004...

Any and all tips and advice are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

p.s. for the mods, if there is a better place for this please move it, I thought this was the best fit for a general 3rd gen thread...

I think on the 2004 they had problems with the steering box wearing out. My 2003 just cracked the dash in the middle above the gages. Friends 04 get great mileage and rides better than my 03.

Take a good look at the tranny and make sure there is no sliping and check the color of the fluid.....

Issues with HVAC doors- make sure climate control works well in all modes and temps.

Long crank time could indicate bad injectors.

Otherwise, check the usual stuff.
