An inline 4 cylinder enigne of that size would also have more of a vibration issue. Inline enignes tend to vibrate more anyway...
Graphite....; I like that quote about politicians... "thats funny right thare!"

The US is WAY behind everyone else in this area. Even in China you can buy very nice Isuzu mini vans just like the type we see running around here, with very nice little diesels. And the VW 2.0 diesel would be ideal for a small pickup. Forget about the torque race among the big three full sized trucks, that's cool but it's a different story. The econo race among small pickups might be another good race.

I won't be laughing, I'll be standing on my chair and cheering. And I'll also be wondering what took so long

I think you're misunderstanding my point... a question was posed about whether the 5.6L V8 Cummins would find it's way into the 2500.

No doubt that the 260hp engine would be just fine for the 1500 application. That's what it has been designed and tested for. That's the comparison vehicle... a 1500 Dodge with Hemi....

Is the power output enough for a 2500/3500... you bet. It's more than my 02 HO was rated at... but in a numbers game, you don't leave 100 hp on the table. As the saying goes, don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Sure the less powerful diesel could find it's way into a 2500 or even 3500. So what? That would just give the consumer more choices. Kind of like how most trucks can be purchased with different sizes of gasoline engines to meet the needs different end users. The less powerful diesel would appeal to someone who wants a diesel primarilly for economy instead of sheer power.

I don't see Dodge just dropping the current B6.7 and conceding the horsepower/torque war to Ford and GM.

A small Cummins in a Durango, if built, could be my wife's next vehicle. If it didn't....how can I saw this....PURR like my truck, I think she'd be interested as she likes the Durangos, but I know she isn't crazy about my I6.

Yeah, I would LOVE a toyota 4WD diesel truck. they would sell like crazy. I've thought about trying to get one of those import half cuts from Japan with a newer turbo diesel setup and patching it into my 82 Toyota 4x4.

but I have never been crazy about V6 engines of any kind. i love the big straight six and how easy it is to work on. And I would never being looking to buy a new 1/2 ton pickup anyway. But I can see how it would be a worthwhile market for dodge to pursue. you are right though, they would need to make it drive more like a gas engine than a truck diesel engine if they are going to sell it to the 1/2 ton light duty pickup crowd.

So, I was in Iraq last year and we had some pickups for tooling around our FOB (they never left the base) that I'd die to have over here. They were Mitsubishi quad and club cab trucks very similar to the U.S. spec Raider body style but they all had 2.4 L turbo-charged I4's and 5-speed manuals. One of the first things I did when I got home was to go to the local Mitsu dealership and practically beg their sales manager to convince corporate to import them. Told him I'd be his very first customer if they did. He gave me what was probably his standard spiel about how he'd look into it and gee wouldn't that be great if they could bring them over?

But, the thing is, it WOULD be great if they could bring them over. My friend owns an '82 Datsun NA diesel truck that gets like 35 mpg around town. I'd suspect that Mitsubishi would get 35-40 no sweat. Come on! Give us a light duty diesel pickup again in here! I love my Cummins but she tops out at 20 mpg at 65 mph unloaded on the highway.

Rant off

I think the light duty diesel will sell great. I would ahve bought a new half ton pick up instead of my 2500 if I could have gotten it with a decent diesel.

Hopefully, we'll see diesel prices get in line with it gaining in popularity.
