John Deere 3 cyl questions
Anybody know what this is?
It is a late 60s to early 70s John Deere Hi-Cycle. Has a little 3 cylinder diesel in it. The side of the block has a JD serial plate and says "made in france"
I was just curious what it was and what I needed to look at to see if it could be adapted to an automotoive trans of some type.
Just have the wild hair of sticking it in an old toyota pickup I have sitting in the weeds. Though I think the engine is prett small. The head is not much more than 16" probably. No turbo. Right now the engine just has a wide v-belt pulley on the back of the flywheel to connect up to the drivetrain.
The plate was pretty smothed off on the inj pump, is a rotary style pump.

I have two French '80s model three cylinder JD 2255s, 50 pto hp, 179 ci.
Several thousand hard working hours on them with no engine problems.
There was an outfit in E. Washington that was taking these engines out of hay swathers and putting them in half ton Chevys.
It can be done.

wow? a 1/2 ton chevy with 50hp, that would have to be a lowspeed operation.
I was going to put it in the lightest vehicle I had if I could make it work. I don't know if this thing has an SAE bellhousing of some type or not.
