Me thinks that Ford has some major hills to climb ref. the 6.0, and the battle is nowhere near over in terms of quality control issues like some would like to believe. I've also heard rumors that the 6.0 will go away already in a couple of years. Makes me think that Ford is extremely unhappy with this engine.

Yeah what a nightmare this has been for Ford and their customers. I cringe when I hear somebody say, they are going to buy one of those 6.0's
They had a solid engine in their 7.3, now where are they going to turn?

I've often wondered about this: If Navistar produced two million engines, why all of a sudden would Ford have stopped buying the 7.3L engine? Ford claims their trucks are the best selling. That would also include the 7.3L engine too. They wanted to compete against Cummins, but didn't have the right size engine to do it? All seems strange. I hope Navistar was properly compensated.
DD making an engine for Ford? I won't say it won't happen, it would just be an oddity, is all. What happened to Ford's own diesel line? Don't they own a European manufacturer for their ripoff copy of the Jeep Rescue?

Back in my younger days.............
I worked for an IH dealer when the Scout first came out. The engine was an International V8 cut in half..... down the middle. If we were out of gasket sets for the Scout, we would break into a V8 set and use some of them.
If Ford or anyone else had a good V8 diesel block, I suppose it would be fiesable to do same to create a diesel for light duty trucks.

Weren't those old scouts steam powered back then?
When GM introduced the Duramax, it was supposedly designed to lop two off for a smaller V6 in their Burb and 1/2 ton. But it never happened.
I think now everyone is waiting to meet the new diesel standards. It will be interesting to see how the new diesel Jeep sells. Maybe that would open the door for Dodge using some German diesels in Durangos, 1/2 tons, etc. in the future.

Ive often wondered how long it would take the pickup truck market to moduleize their engines.
This probably will never happen, but then again.... maybe.
The semi's you see on the road are often built to generic specs for engines.
One Peterbilt may have a Cummins, the next one has a Cat. Same with Kenworths and many others.
The owner has a choice about what engine he/she is going to run.
Is the Pickup truck market going to eventually head down this same path?
I personally hope so.
However, with Ford scratching their head looking for another diesel engine supplier, and no longer being bound by contractual obligations... it may not be a bad move for them to design a truck that could accept a Cummins ISB, or Detroit Diesel, or perhaps even some MB designed diesel.
Let the customer chose which diesel they want.
Yeah, it'll probably never happen. But it sure would open up the sales for Ford.
