Intake tube fabrication ?'s

I'd like to make a crossover tube to replace the itty-bitty factory one. My question is, what material is safe to use for intake/charge air?
Thanks

Steel tube. Exhaust pipe will be fine.

How about one that goes across the grill with some fins on it??? I think that might be more bang for the buck. IMHO...

An I/C is more buck than I have to bang around right now If I make the crossover out of 3'' exhaust pipe like Wanna suggested, the main cash outlay will be in clamps and whatnot, which I can re-use when I can afford an intercooler
