Im buying a 24v

Hi,

Im buying a 2000 dodge 2500 4x4 24v cummins, for $12500, good buy? Is there anything to look for on these trucks? It has 100,000 miles

I know some about diesels, just not dodges

check the Fuel presure cause that a little low for pricing you dont want to buy into someones problems just for a good price

try a dealer or a diesel mac. they should have a gauge they con hook up under the hood and tell you what it is

Also have it hooked up to a scanner tool and see if there are any trouble codes present. The one to look out for is P0216 which is the Injection Pump death code.

Do a search for "24 valves" "VP-44 pumps" and "fuel pressure" as well as "53 block." This has been covered many, many times before.

It's around $1500+ for a new injection pump when your lift pump fails, and takes the VP injection with it, which if you're monitoring with a gauge, may not happen so quickly. Note that's "when" and not "if." The 47 RE automatics still had thier share of trouble too. The 24V series, while still a capable engine, will be viewed as the least desirable Cummins models this side of a new "bluetec" emissions-compliant engine (2007+)
