If you had the option
If you had the option
I going to ask for your opinion on what was the Best Diesel Dodge pickup built in the last 15 or so years. There is a lot of buzz nowadays about all the newer 98+ Dodges with the computer mod, reprogramming that produce lots of Power and Torque, which seems so easy to do. I am trying to determine, is power possible outta a older series Dodge Diesel, without going over the cost of buying a 98 Dodge. I am currently in the Military and Haul a lot of heavy large bulky cargo. I really like the 98 body style trucks, but I am much more interested in Work capacity than Body effects and all that stylish stuff. Not to mention on a Military pay check for the next 5 months.. I have to work within my budget, if you know what I mean. Don’t want any like a weak Isuzu "wanna be" Diesel pickups ... lol my grandfather had one and it was embarrassing to drive lol. IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET POWER OUT OF A PRE-1998 DODGE CUMMINS?!?
YES IT IS!

Check out this list...
12 valves have power levels of 682, 665, 635, and 607 HP on a 97, 95, 98 and 93 respectively.
Or if you are a drag racer check out this list; MDW has a 1995 2500 that lays out sub-12 second runs.
Any Cummins that you get is capable of putting out more dependable power than any new truck you can get off of the lot. As Stomp has recently proven, even a VE-pumped 1989-1994 Cummins can put out over 600 HP, but he's worked his tail off to get there. Probably the best power-to-dollar ratio can be found on the 1994-1998 12 valves, because they're the ones with the oil-lubricated GOD of injection pumps, the P-7100. The newer Cummins are the easiest ones to modify (highest power-to-hour ratio), but when it comes to the highest echelon of Diesel performance the 12 valves can run right along with the 24 valves. And altough the Duramax is coming up quick, the Cummins is still the all around king.
With the money that you save getting a 12 valve rather than a 24 valve you could have that 12 valve putting down runs that would make a Corvette owner nervous...
