Smile If I love my 12 valve ... will I ...?

Hi Guys
I have had my new to me 96 12 valve of a little more than a month ... It did need a little tlc when I got ... and still needs a little more .... but I love the truck , I feel I could just get in that truck and drive anywhere and not have to worry about it letting me down .

Unlike a Ford that shares the same driveway ... for now ...LOL . I just got my tittle for my ford ...it's a 7.3 that has gotton the same love from me , but the ford has let me down so many times I can't trust it ...I am a retired wrench ... I can fix just about anything ...I'm just tired of fixing that truck ... the dealer did most of the repairs ...28 time for big ticket items .

I have some time this weekend ... after getting the house ready for winter... I want to know will I like the new 3rd generation of cummins , my little 12 valve is just so much fun to drive .
I am going to need 4wd , 4 doors , I don't mine getting a dually , cummins of course ... I have allways bought new , but I would not mind another used truck .
So will I be happy with what dodge is offering theses days ... are you guys ?

Thanks Guys

Greg

I'm quite happy with my truck, an 02.

The quality of the newer trucks seems to be pretty good. At least the equal of brand F and C. The newer interiors are nicer, but I think the seats aren't as comfy.

I don't have much seat time or experience w/ 03 and newer Dodges, though.

You will like driving a 3rd gen truck much more than your '96
but when the warranty is gone
and something goes wrong
you'll wish it was a 12 valve.

well since your a wrench, you will like the newer trucks, the wrench part comes when you decide not to buy the extended waranty and take matters into your own hands.... taking that money to be spent on some mild bombs to start and gauges.. money you would have spen on a waranty anyway. now spent on making the truck even more ejoyable for your right foot !

Well, I'm still a wrench, and was working at Dodge when your 96 was born, and I've have never owned one until my 05, but what a difference in power from back in those days.

I have a 95 and and an 04.5. Prefer the old one in all aspects. The 95 is a good truck nut needs some TLC where the new one is fuel and go. The new one is for towing and extended trips where the 95 is a daily driver. I honestly think the 04.5 will be a 12 valve if the motor ever dies.

I started with a 99 and traded for an 03 when they came out.I recently sold the 03 and bought a 95 and the 95 actually seems to be built better although it doesn't handle nearly as well as the 03 did. I guess the thing that annoyed me most with the 03 was having the steering gear box, 4 balljoints, complete axle assy and CP3 injection pump replaced in 30K miles, even worse than that was having to argue with service manager each time and all repairs required at least 2 trips each to get the dealer to acknowledge problem. I have some wrenching to do to get the 95 like I want it but it sure beats arguing with an ignorant service manager.I don't miss the 03.
