I understand why people buy new instead of used. However, with my budget and love for the 12v's, I had to buy used. The maintenance bill on buying a used truck is more than I expected though. The 4wd isn't helping one bit either. I was new to 4wd, but now I realize that the same 2wd truck will have a lot less problems and costs associated with it.

So anyway, how much do you think you've put into your truck just for repairs for as long as you've owned it? This doesn't include any major modifications (bigger turbo, injectors, etc.). I think I'll end up dumping an extra 3.5 grand in a few accessories (in my sig), maintenance items, and front-end parts since I bought the truck less than a couple years ago; and that's IF I do all the labor myself. It would easily be double that if I keep taking it to a shop. Not good when you just want to have fun with the truck and use it instead of feeling like it's time to replace a wheel hub. I'm beginning to see where this saying came from: "The Cummins will outlast the truck." But I guess any vehicle would require these maintenance items after 10 years.

 

I bought my 03 used in 2006 with 68,000km on the clock ive owned it just over a year it now has 119,000km on the clock.

As repairs go:
Ball Joints and front end U-Joints at 70,000km $1300
2 rear driveline U-joints at 85,000km $40
Front upper and lower Ball Joints again at 95,000km $1000
1 Fan Belt at 100,000km $100

Total cost In repairs $2440

 

04.5 total repair bill so far 8K in an engine rebuild other than that none to date

 

Hate to admit it, but I paid $3500 for my '92 a couple years ago. To date I've put over $4000 into it. And the only "performance parts" on the truck are a set of gauges (Boost and Pyro)

For me it seems to be the "Little Things" that cost me the most money. I knew when I bought it, the front end needed some 'attention'. Well after replacing basically everything except the axle housing and the gearset, I have a brand new front end! But like I said it's the little things on my truck. Power steering hoses here, gaskets there, U-joints on this end, carrier bearing on the other end, Wheel cylinder on this side, Wheel bearings on the other side.
It all adds up, and Trust me. It'll sneak up on ya! Especially when you have to atone for the sins of the previous owners! (READ: FIX THEIR JIMMY RIGGIN' AND LACK OF MAINTENANCE!)

The really sad part is, I've driven the truck (on road) a maximum of 50 miles!

What happened to the engine?!

I feel you on that one... You buy the truck thinking you got a great deal on it. Then the next thing you know, you've put more money into it than what you paid for it! I'm kinda in the same boat. I was so anxious that I finally found the truck I wanted that I kinda "overlooked" the front end. I knew it needed attention but I was like, "oh well, it can't cost too much to fix." If I knew, I would've tried to haggle the price down more with the seller. Although, I doubt he would've came down any more cause he had other potential buyers.

 

Only a blown inter cooler with a price tag of $940. That it all to date for repairs. By the looks of everyone else I have gotten off cheap.

 

I bought my 96 in 01 with 143,000 on it it now has 176,000 and the only things I have replaced so far is:

Front left Wheel Bearing. $180.00
AC Compressor $240.00
Left Front Ball Joint $ 25.00
TOTAL $445.00

Before I bought the truck the last owner had the track bar changed for $140.
This dosent include the new tranny and motor rebuild caused by the mods I have installed. That is another storiy in its self.

Bought the truck new in may of 05. Just clicked over 52,000 this week.

Money on repairs to date: $0.00

 

Other than normal maintenance:

- $1.00 for a hose clamp to add to the upper radiator hose to stop the really slow leak
- Almost paid $100 deductible for the CP3 replacement until I re-read a few posts on this site and realized the engine warranty covered it

47K miles so far... Ball joints seem to be in decent shape still (knock on wood), and I have an FP gauge and the lift pump still seems to be working OK (again knock on wood)

 

i bought mine with 101k now has 109k. repair bill to date:

Transmission rebuild/repair: $1700

 

2000 3/4 ton Cummins diesel 4X4 traded at 95,000 total repare costs $0.00
2004 1ton Cummins diesel traded at about 60,000 total repare costs $0.00 Warranty did cover a NV5600 at aroun10,000 miles.

2006 1ton Cummins diesel had to replace the factory clutch but trust me it was self inflicted . At 35,000 miles nothing, no repare costs even by Dodge.
Another thing my truck is hooked to a trailer 3/4 of the time and is a work truck and is treated like one.

 

My 02 Chev. Bought 1-1/2 yrs ago w/ 27k mi. Has almost 70k mi now.

1 pwr window assembly $120

 

According to my Excel file I have right at $3615.74 in my truck since I bought it four years ago.

That includes oil changes and such too.
