How many of you know....?
How many of you know that you can not drain your fuel/water seperator and also fill up the tank at the sametime?? I did not, now I do. Lucky I was standing there and seen all that "water" pooring out under the truck :'(...I won't do that again. 8)
Re:How many of you know....?
Is this a trick question or something?
The only time I ever drain it is when I'm filling it up. That way I don't worry about leaving a fresh little puddle on the ground with all the other large puddles at the fuel dock.
Then again, I don't open the petcock and walk away.

Re:How many of you know....?
True. I did it once because I thought maybe my puddle maker was clogged up or something. I could open the valve but nothing would come out. So, I opened and turned the key on. It wasn't clogged.

I guess the Ags are thinking a like...Just b/c nothing comes out when opened doesnt mean it is clogged.
F/W seperator is what it says it is. Diesel often contains water from condensate and this allows the two to seperate. The valve is located on the bottom of the fuel filter canister, if there is any water it will collect on the bottom (water is heavier than diesel) and you can open the valve to drain the water, as the manual recomends. Most people have never had water in their system (i think).

Your CTD will have a fuel/water seperator (filter) somewhere under the hood, depending on the year of your truck. My 99's is on the drivers side near the firewall. I'm not sure where they are in other trucks, hence the qualified statement. The filter elements should be changed every other oil change or so.
