How do I know which engine I have?

Just traded my hemi for my first Diesel. It was a slightly(3800 miles) used 04 3500 4X4 Offroad. It has a build date on 10-03. This is just the 555 diesel right? is that still considered HO? how do I tell because I was looking at the vin and I was told it is an HO and I thought that was only the 600's.
am I really confused here?
thanks

It's a HO, but not a '600.

The 245HP motor came with the auto's and 5-speeds, the 305HP motor came with the 6-speeds.

Later, the 305 motor was available with the Auto (48RE).

There should be a tag on the valve cover or TPS that lists hp.

The SO is 250hp/460ft lbs, the HO is 305/555 and the 600 (2004.5 and up) is 325/600.

Have a dealer print you out a "Build Sheet". Just give him your VIN #. Should be no charge.
This will list all equipment as it came from factory, including engine.

Thanks guys. It is the 305/555. I love this truck so far. I can't wait to pull the drag car with it this weekend. I need to decide on just a few mods now. It came with an edge box on it but I took it off because I was afraid to run it with no gages.
thanks again

Hey Ron. I saw elsewhere that you had escaped Yuma. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you and see that nice Duster run. You will LOVE towing with that diesel!!

Hi all, new to forum, great discussions. Quick question. What would you do if the salesman and manger tell you, the truck has the 325/600 in it, but then after you buy it and read this forum, you find out that you have the 305/555. thanks for any input

Grey TD:
My advice, take your lumps and move on. Remember Ronald Reagan's quote regarding dealing with the Soviet Union? "Trust but Verify."

A good dealer would do something to accomodate you, but then a good dealer would know what he's selling. That leaves two choices, they're either ignorant or they lied to you, neither of which is what I'm looking for in a Dealer!

Welcome to the site, Grey TD. I'm afraid that you don't have much recourse without something in writing. Like Squidward said, forget it, drive on. By the way, there are ways to get that beast well past 325/600.

Thanks guys. Mine told me it was the 305/555 but I thought I would check anyway since it was an 04, thats all.

I wish we could have met. Believe it or not, I miss being out there some. The track is only 13 miles from my house here so thats a relief. The problem is that there are probably only 2 other Mopars that ever show up. Take care and I will probably be pm'ing you and some others about the diesel, its my first. I reall am happy about getting out of my hemi and into this.

I would expect nothing..but still write a hot, but polite, letter to the owner of the dealership. Might (should) get something....free oil changes, etc. They should have some interest in trying to keep you from bad mouthing their dealership around the area! If nothing else you may get better treatment in the future if you need them for warranty work, etc. Worth a try and if it were me I would feel better...just doing something.

Yea if nothing else, just to feel better about getting the wool pulled over my eyes . Lesson learned don't trust a car salesman, verify before you buy I did send an email to Daimlerchrysler Canada. I doubt anything will happen. I still love the truck though.
