Holset air compressor repair ?

There have been some members that work with heavy diesel trucks on here. I have the Holset compressor on my truck. In the setup I obviously did not tighten a compresson fitting enough and had the main feed line blow off at full pressure. This rendered the valves damaged for poor compression and rapid leakage of the tank back through the compressor after shutdown. What is involved in the repair of the valves? Also a good source of the parts and gaskets. Does this come as a kit?

Try and big truck after market parts house for a rebuid kit for your model compressor....some times its cheaper to just get a rebuilt compressor

I think Cummins carrys parts for the Holset compressors too

Compressors are simple pumps and the valves are EZ to replace unless the seat area is damaged too

You can buy a head rebuild kit, unloader kit etc. that should come with all necessary components. I think it runs about 70 bucks if I remember right.

You said your tank drained back through the compressor? It would probably be a good idea to put a check valve at the inlet of the wet tank.

Thanks Pappyman and Monty....

Monty that was the info that I was looking for. I have had experience with other types of compressors and the air systems and had to go guessing with this one. I contimplated about the check at the wet, but the older systems only used it on the dry. I was not sure what effect it would have on the regulator. The Holset seems to operate differently than the other systems that I am accustomed to. Dah... no effect the govoner line comes from the tank

I will run it a short while as is, till I get a powersteering hose made up for the feed with flair fittings. I guess the heat is considerable as the system I used has worked well on many other systems but seems inadequate on the Holset. I have 1/2 air brake hose on the main feed. Have noticed that it produces more condesation than I am used to. Probably go to a 5/8 feed for less heat build.

The unit only has 20,000 miles on it so the rings should be in good shape and only need the damaged valves repaired. Head is easy to get to, pulling the compressor would be a nightmare deal in comparison. Gets tight down there in the Dodge frame and fenderwell.

The conversion has been a really successful one. I would not like to try it with the engine in the truck unless a shorter power steering pump could be found, all systems work great, I held my breath on the power steering, but it is fine. If you ever convert one, be sure to add a cooler to the ps pump, without it the thing peals paint. Power Steering pump has to be recalibrated to 1500 pounds or an external regulator could be added.

All big trucks that do not run an air dryer still have a check valve at the wet tank. Just be sure to drain your tank frequently

Found my problem... Don't have a pressure gage hooked up yet so did not notice the problem, not smart. The nut loosened up that locks the pressure adjustment on the air governor. The screw backed all the way up. The weakest link was the 175 test rating on the Synflex air line feeding the tank. It blew the hose again. Need to finish the system up.

Monty I set it up with a good quality check valve, set it for 125/100 pounds. The condensation is virtually gone. Guess the Holset E will not run properly without a check valve. Thanks for the info.
