Is this a good deal?

2007 2500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4 LWB
5.9L CTD, 6-speed manual
Anti-spin differential, they say it's a 3.73
Big Horn value package
Power 40/20/40 bench seat in cloth
Power folding mirrors

MSRP: 41,740
Sale price: 31,740 after incentives

They tell me $5K of those incentives is only available if I finance 70% through CFC for a minimum of 6 months. I really would rather not finance it at all, but 6 months worth of interest payments is a lot less than $5K, so I guess I gotta do it.

As you can tell by my moniker, I currently have a Duramax with a ZF6. But it's getting older and I'm thinking it might be time for a new truck, especially considering the DPF debacle. That DPF stuff sounds like a pile of !@#$ to me. I want a non-DPF new truck, and the window is closing.

Much as I like my Duraheap (an '02 I ordered and bought new), GM has discontinued all manual transmissions, and I hate those girly automatic transmissions, and there ain't a new Duramax/ZF on a lot anywhere that's equipped how I want it.

The Duraheap is a good motor but so is the CTD, and 6-speed manuals in Dodges are not hard to find. So I'm thinking of getting this Dodge. Just would like some input on this deal. TIA.

BTW, what kind of fuel mileage can I expect from the CTD with the manual and 3.73 axle? My Duramax, which also has a 3.73 and is a crew cab 4x4 long bed, averages 19's, and that's with the Edge box on level 1, which is plenty of power. Does the Dodge do that well? Better? Worse? I hear all these DPF trucks are getting 13's, all 3 brands.

how come they get such bad gas milage? I'd think they would have refined from the 12v's and 24v's to get even better milage than the 20+mpgs the 12 and 24v's get.

14mpg? Yikes! That's a tough pill to swallow. Is yours an auto or 6-speed? Dually?

What happpened to the fuel mileage. Emissions, that's what happened. It really depends on how you drive. You can get in the 17's once it is broken in good and watch your speed. If you fly down the road at 80MPH 14MPG is probably about right.

My 03 4x4 6 speed did 18-20 mpg hand calculated pretty consistently unloaded, but these newer (04.5-07) seem to be getting 16-18.

I have the same truck you are talking about - 3.73's - but I have an automatic... I get around 16.5 - 17 - but only have 4,000 miles on the engine - no towing yet, so it obviously isnt broken in.

Sticker was $43K - I paid a little more than they offered you with 18 miles on the odometer

Wow, sounds like there's quite a range of mileage numbers. But that's very hopeful, 16-18. That puts it close enough to my Duraheap that I could live with it.

I think I'll go test drive it.

Another question, how is the tire wear on the solid front axle 4x4's?

My previous truck (before the Duraheap) was a Ford with a 7.3, and that thing chewed up front tires. Also, before it hit 100K miles, I had to completely rebuild the front end, new tie rod ends, ball joints, even a new panhard bar. Every single joint in the front end was totally shot. My Chevy has over 100K and everything is still holding up fine, plus that dual a-arm with torsion bars rides really nice, and I get good tire wear. Just wondering how the Dodges hold up and how they treat the front tires.

If you want it, and have the cash, do the financing. It's definitely worth it. You have to finance at least 70%, but how long does it have to be ABOVE 70%? If it's 6 months, and your payments are 500 a month pay everything off but 3000.

That's what I would do at least, and that with out a doubt guarantee's you will NOT have it any longer than six months.
