In the new Diesel World issue it says, Toyota Tundra will have a 4.5L V8 twin turbo diesel rated at 268hp and 479 ft-lbs of torque with the new Asin 6spd auto trans.

It will be realsed when ford and dodge relase there diesel half tons.

believe it or not guys but it takes MORE fuel to meet these emmissions requirements...more injections per cycle to burn the fuel more "efficiently" (and make them quieter) ...ironic word huh...

...and I wouldn't say GM is starting anything. Cummins announced their light-duty diesels last year and then announced they would be going into Dodge vehicles in the corresponding fall.
I couldn't agree more. Those power numbers are dreaming unless they're talking a prototype with no emissions equipment on it and no accessories. All the current diesels except the d-max have gotten displacement increases and I heard the d-max will soon too to make power with the new emissions so a smaller engine making numbers like that doesn't make sense.

Maybe all the manufacturers should stop worrying so much about making more power that 95% of buyers don't need and build a better truck that 100% of buyers do need. But, of course, the manufacturers will say that the numbers are what sells the product. I guess they know what works.

I've heard the same rumors about the next generation Duramax.... increase in displacement to purported 6.9L.

First of all, the 8.1 died with the introduction of the GMT-900's. Marine apps are the only place it lives on today. I doubt the dodge V10 did much better as far as MPG....any big gas engine in a truck this size is going to get bad mileage, no matter which way you slice it.

Second of all, since when did the escalade have the 8.1 at all?

that new dmax is not 590ft lbs. Its 520. 300+ hp and 520 torque. When I vehicle is under 8600gvwr and not an HD pickup truck, its easy to increase power safely, without worrying that the engine will be overworked or wear out faster at the higher power level. Why dont the big three HD's have 500/1000 from the factory? They are obviously capable of it, but its about what can be reliable and safe. You also see 30k gvwr medium duty's that hardly have 200hp....

that engine is all new, overhead cam, etc...lots of advancements and the fact that the engine was designed for 2010 emmissions from the start makes it completely feasible. Come on...why would they quote power numbers so far in advance that they are not confident of??? If they werent confident in the engines capability then they wouldnt post any numbers period. GM is stupid at times, but if they are saying right now the engine will be 300/520 @ 4.5 liters, I think its safe to assume the engine will actually have that when the time comes.

But maybe Ill be eating my words...certainly wont be the first time I was wrong!
