Gale Banks' advertising budget

I can't be the only one to notice that Diesel World, Diesel Builder, and Diesel Power all are kissing Gales behind this month. Diesel World and Builder have almost the same interview quotes from him! Geez. Isn't there someone or something better to talk too in the diesel world. Think of all the small machine shops and power shops all accross the country that they could be talking too. Oh well i'll just crawl back into my bitter, depressed cave now!

You can say what you want about Banks and maybe you don't like his stuff. Me I think most of it is overpriced. The fact remains, that without guys like Banks and all of his years of research and knowledge, not only would the diesel market still be lagging, but the gassers as well. He has always been one of the leaders in development and testing.

You do have a point there. I have a six-gun... way overpriced and complicated for what it is and does. I was suckered by the hype, I admit it. I have since learned. What he does make does have quality. Is it the best available, no. Is it bad, no. Overhyped and overpriced, yes.
Banks does deserve credit for the research and what not he has done. What about the "not so rich and famous" pioneers that we have here on DTR??
What gets under my skin with Banks and having dealt with them over the years is the arrogance. We have people like Quad or Marco with smarty or even Buddy with BD who will listen and provide custom applications. With Banks, it is about how they can best separate you from your $$$ and little else.

i think banks gets so much media time is because the company makes a wide variety of hard parts as well as electronics, and has a history of successful and unusual testing, like at the salt flats where their ctd dakota held a land speed record for years. while companies like mads and quadzilla make great products, i don't think there is as much widespread interest in reading an article in which you discuss, in detail, how your ecm programs are better than your competitors- imo that info is more useful in a product review/ dyno test article or comparison test of diesel tuners.

Thats one of the most uninformed statements I've read.

With Banks I like to use the Mexican restaurant analogy.

Banks is the overpriced Mexican place that everybody goes too and everybody knows about. They make ok food but its not the best you've ever had.

About every other company is the out of the way Mexican place thats just the right price but few know about. This place makes great food and has a small but faithful following.

The analogy goes further if you compare your warranty to the after effects of Mexican food. No matter which place you go to your going to have to clean up your own mess!

other than the six gun, what is overpriced? their exhaust (which, once you factored in upgrading to stainless and having to buy your own tip) was cheaper than silverline (not to mention a WAY better fit and easier install), their intake manifold, which was about $60 cheaper than ats, afe, and cfm? as for warranty do you mean from your dealership or from banks? i've never had to deal with banks regarding their warranty, but i know banks products are one of very few that my dealership won't hassle you about. if you're going to rag a company, why don't you let everyone know what product you used, and what your problems were- unless you never used one of their products and you just don't like companies that are successful and make lots of money- in that case barrack or hillary will appreciate your vote later this year.

Hahaha... meow... hiss. Feathers ruffled much?

I have no problem with companies that are successful and make money. I never said anything about that. Please reread my post and find where I said there was anything wrong with making money and being successful.

I have had friends who used Banks and later switched to other products. I learned from their mistakes. They never had any problems with Banks just the performance you get for the price you pay isn't on par with some others. Please reread my analogy. I never once mentioned any problems. What you failed to gather from my analogy is that its all about perceived value, its all about getting the best bang for the buck.

As for the barack and hillary comment. That made me the mad. How dare you insinuate that I would ever vote for either of them! I made absolutely no comment at all in my post that would lead you to believe that I was anti capitalist or of any other political orientation. Your comment was very unprofessional and does not follow the intent of this forum.

Everyone can have an opinion. You should do a little history search and see just how long Banks has been in the market and the news. You don't have to be a fan of his to see the facts.

Banks has been in the business for quite a while now. He hasn't been strictly diesel the whole time though. All I can say is they must know something in that their turbo kit was a factory installed option for GM 6.2's. And most dealers will not hassle you about Banks equipment. You pay a premium for it, but in comparison shopping, I've found it's somewhat comparable to other stuff out there. You can make more power with other stuff, available from other vendors, that's a fact, and even Banks has admitted it.

I am by NO MEANS a cheerleader of Banks and their products. The prices are simply too much for me, I want more power than they make with their products, and some smoke to me is cool.

They make SAFE, RELIABLE and SMOKE FREE power. At a price. I wouldn't buy their stuff, but would use it if I got a screaming deal or if it was given to me, and had a vehicle with a warranty and was driven by more than just me.
