Friend buing a PS HELP

have a friend looking at a 97 Ford PS, Auto, Ext cab, longbed, loaded. 100,000 miles.

He is a Ford man, but was interested in buing a dodge but can't find one and doesn't want to wait.

I know this is a Dodge Forum, but I would like to have some info on the problems these trucks are having so I can talk him into waiting. And the Ford guy wouldn't give me any useful help too bias.

Can anyone help?

Have him go browse thedieselstop.com - a Ford site. Any ideas? I like the 7.3 more than the 6.0, and have him look at the maintenance records if possible.

He's not one for using the net, much, still a pencil and paper man

I have been to the dieselstop and wasn't able to find much, most of the info was for 99 and up.

I will go cruise their site again.

Does anyone have any info on the Tranny?

Go back to the diesel stop and go in the 94-97 forums, all the info you need. Look for user SteveBaz, he has a webpage with a crap load of info on PSD's.

Not a great riding truck but durable.
The engine, if taken care of, should be fine. The Ford auto trannys did have some issues. Is it a 4x4? The ZF (if it is a stick) is a great trans.

Thats a little misleading. Can get a whole set of performance upgraded injectors for 750.00 from Swamps Performance and you dont have to replace the vc gaskets unless they burn out some plugs, still only 35 apiece.

PSD's are definetly more expensive to mod but the prices are comin down now that there is getting to be some competion. Every truck has its upsides and down sides.

Thank guys, Bean thanks or the web site, helped a bunch.

The truck sold 2 hours before he got there. So for now he will still be looking for a cummins.

By the way I like all brands, I just like the cummins motor better. I would buy it no matter what make was around it, even if it was in a Toyota.

Thanks for the info, I learned a lot
