Found new 07- problems from sitting so long?
I found a new 2007, 5.9, 6sp on a dealer's lot for a good price. It's got about 20 miles or so on it. At the latest, it could have been built in 12/06, so it's probably been sitting for a year and a half or so. I'm expecting the batteries to be shot and the fluids will need to be changed, but can I expect any other long term issues from it sitting so long?
I looked at new 07 on the lot after 8 months. This is what I found...
Tires cracking
Seals cracking and faded
The engine compartment was covered in a thick layer of dust
Had lots of squeaks
Batteries were weak
Lots of rust on chassis components
This was just the one I found and it had 50 miles on it. It was new and I walked away and found the one I have. It may be the deal of the day since it will have the factory warranty, but Id just really look it over good.
Good luck and have a good one.

Thanks so much for the feedback. It's not in Cleburne, but is in the Dallas area. Since I'm in another state, I'd gladly send someone a twenty to drive by and do a once over on the truck. Nothing in-depth, but spotting something obvious would save me the hassles of a long trip for nothing.

At Dodgetown? Hmm...
Tires cracking (I find that hard to believe unless a tire went flat. )
Seals cracking and faded (Again, find hard to believe. Cracking? Faded.. sure it wasn't just dirty. The wind does blow there.)
The engine compartment was covered in a thick layer of dust (So that hurts it how??)
Had lots of squeaks (Setting there isn't going to do that)
Batteries were weak (Understandable if it wasn't run much.)
Lots of rust on chassis components (Have you every looked under truck like that after 2 months... it didn't look any different at that point you saw it.)
when my brother bought his 07 (5.9) megacab in January it had sat on the lot for over a year it had 55 miles when he picked it up, he has over 20k now with no problems, he changed the oil after the first 1k miles and was good to go. Loves the truck, no front end or tire problems.

I have an 03 that sits alot (always outside), I just now have 20k. No problems that I am aware of.
Vehicles languishing on dealers lots happens in the motorhome industry all the time. I recently ordred a 2008 Winnebago Class C motorhome with a Chevy cutaway van chassis. The mtorhome was ordered to my specs and built March 2008. The Chevy Chassis was built in September 2007. Still a 2008 model but it sat for 6 months just the same.

In Dec. '98, I bought a '98 12V that had been on the lot almost exactly 12 months. I drove it over 7 years and 110K miles with no problems I didn't create by towing fairly heavy. Even the batteries lasted 6 years.
Ya' never know. Even some fresh from the factory have problems.
