Is Ford getting Cummins?

Ive heard more than a few times that Ford is set for contract with Cummins when Dodge's contract runs out at the end of 2007. Ive talked to alot of people and they say Dodge is going with CAT. Is this possible? Why put an end to a good thing?

not sure but a buddy who has a few diesels both Ford and a bunch of Dodges.....said his Cummins rep (farm and commercial equipment) heard that the Alison tranny may be going to mate with the Cummins in upcoming Dodges...07 or 08.

That would be almost too good to be true imho....hope the Cummins guy is not blowing smoke up our collective butts.

you would not believe the number of guys that still think Ford OWNS Cummins though......wow what a group of knuckleheads. So when I tell them they never owned the company just a little stock...but Cummins bought all the shares back and Ford has none.....they just look at me like a deer in the headlights. LOL

You know this stuff gets started by guys who are really hoping they may one day get a Cummins in a Ford truck. I can't blame them for wanting that combo, Ford has a great Truck! but I wouldn't give $1.00 for one of those Intertrashinal Engines they put in them.

In the perfect world we could order any vehicle, with any power combo we preferred, wow what a concept.....

No, but Daimer Chrysler owns Detroit. If Detroit made a small engine it would be pretty healthy in a full size pickup. Dodges contract runs out at the end of 2007. I know this by looking at the Cummins website. Are they gonna renew it? Anybody know for sure?

Yeah, alot of older big fords have Cummins, Just like alot of big GMs have CAT, etc..... I wouldnt like to see Ford get Cummins. They pretty much have the show stolen now. We sell alot of parts to alot of farmers where I live. 99/100 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are Fords. I dont see how Dodge and GM would stand a chance if Ford was to get the Cummins motor.

I don't think Dodge is going to get a CAT but I don't see why Dodge getting a Benz would be out of ther question at all.... But Dodge giving up Cummins would be Ford COULD use Cummins. This could be a dangerous and dumb move for Daimler but maybe they think they could do it.

Here is a can of worms: If Dodge had a Benz and Ford had a Cummins would you buy a Ford?

Exclamation I figured out where this Ford/Cummins rumor started.

Once again there was a dead Ford along side the road. A Dodge guy stopped by to ask the irate Ford owner if he could help or call a tow truck. The outraged Ford owner who had had this happen several time already yelled in distress, "This dang Ford, got one COMING "!!!

Several people in the nearby parking lot heard the exasperated phrase and over a short period of time it has warped into "Ford owners got tow trucks coming" then "Ford owner, it's already Coming", then "Ford owns Cummings".

Sort of like a joke that gets changed everytime it is told.

Chrysler may not renew the 5.9 B-series engine, but I read messages on one of these forums that a Cummins 6.7 L engine would replace the 5.9 L B-series to compete with the new Duramax 6.6 L LBZ that is producing more HP and torque than that obtained from the 5.9 L Cummins. The 5.9 L Cummins could be fueled up to surpass the LBZ, but then the B-series I-6 engine would not pass the new air pollution regulations. The increased displacement in the 6.7 L Cummins would be able to burn the extra fuel needed for increased power more efficiently than when burned in the 5.9 liters and still pass regulations. One way or another Cummins will do one better than the Corn Binder or ricer. If DC eventually drops the Cummins it will probably be replaced in the Dodge trucks with a Mercedes diesel I-6 truck engine. I do not know what the competition is trying to prove using a V8 configuration for a diesel engine.

I have a cousin that drives a Sterling dump truck with a Merc engine. Says its got plenty of power, but he prefers the KW with a Cummins.

I posted this back in August 2004:

From today's Autotech Daily:

"Ford Motor Co. plans to introduce a 6.2-liter V-8 and new gasoline and diesel V-6 engines beginning in 2007, reports Automotive News..........................
.....................The new V-6 diesel likely will be supplied by Cummins Inc. It is expected to be used in the Expedition, F-150 and possibly the Navigator sometime after 2007..........."

Autotech Daily is an industry trade publication that I subscribe to.
