General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

My old slant-6 sounds just like a cummins. A dog on the highway, but a helluva crawler and hay-hauler.

Straight 6 engines are notoriously very strong and last a long time. I have always liked them. That is why I like the Cummins engines. The torque is excellent.

To add to the found on road dead argument, my 04.5 CTD left me stranded 60 miles from home with an 85 dollar tow truck bill to go 4 miles when my lift pump went out going 70mph down the highway and left me out a truck for 3 days. 2 weeks ago my brothers 07 1500 Hemi left him stranded because it was blowing fuses and it took the dealer 5 days to figure that out. Our work truck 2002 2500 CTD dropped the transfer case pulling a trailer down the highway around amarillo tx, it was out for 2 days

i thought it only happened to ford

Yes on the side of the road stinks but compairing a bad lift pump to a blown engine is a big difference. But, on the side of the road is still on the side of the road dead in the water. I could tell when my lift pump was going with my fuel pressure gauge.

I didn't think anyone rebuilt them, because they never died.

On the subject of Furd, particularly '08 Super Duty....

My GAWD Them things is UGLY! A face TRULY only a mother could love!

Another thought. Most of the 4x4 F250 and F350 I see had me convinced that they had some sort of IFS in the front. They sit so low. I saw one today LIFTED. Big multi leaf springs holding a solid axle in front. Then I saw another with a small lift and leafs and a solid.

I guess I was wrong about that.

Anyhow, I'd drive a 7.3 from say '98-'02, but you could not force me to have a 6.0 or 6.4!!!
