Ford with 6BT conversion

I found this F350 with a 98 6BT,NV4500 conversion for $7500. I like the ford chassis as I feel it is heavier than the dodge. I also want a real 4 door. I have a 82 D350 4 door SB that I purchased to do a cummins conversion on. For the price on the ford I was wondering if I should buy it and sell the dodge. The ford is fully loaded and the dodge is a base model with no options. Does anyone have any experience with the 6bt swap into a ford? Is there anything to look out for?

Yeah I would say go for it. I cant say for sure, but that looks like a different CPL engine than the basic Ram comes with, so thats an added plus. It also looks like they used the Ford A/C compressor. For $7500, id go for it.

Kinda looks like a 1st gen Motor. I would say A Ford 4 door with a Cummins is the Best truck around! Got some Pis of a Buddys Ford with a Cummins in my gallery, Super nice truck!

I don't think its a 1st gen motor since those had a VE rotary style injection pump (similar to the VP-44 minus the electronics). The injection pump in the second picture looks like the P-7100 pump used from 94-98 on the Rams.

That's an inline pump on there, and that motor didn't come out of a Dodge. That's Cummins tan there, it was probably in a school bus or some other meduim duty truck chassis.

That looks like a great truck to get hold of. Just have a look around, make sure the wiring looks well done, make sure all fabricated parts look well-made (mounts, etc.)Sometimes you see these backyard jobs where incorrect bolts are rammed in sideways/crooked/bent or wood screws are installed in place of rivets etc. Just make sure it's not one of those jobs.

That's what I was thinking. I'd get the serial number and see what it is or at least was.

Thats a pullin sonvabuck right there..

IMHO those trucks have the strongest frames and chassis of almost any truck out there. So that engine, i notice has the AC thing on the top, and has the intake hat of a 1st gen? it looks pretty weird to me, I was wonderin where it came from, looks to be industrial as u guys say..

My question is, can it still be BOMBed the same way that our regular trucks are?

I'm suppose to talk to the owner monday night. I'll see if I can find out some more info. If I buy it, it will be sight unseen as I'm too far away to go look at it. Is there anything I should get him to shoot pictures of? The motor is suppose to be a 98. Do you think the front corner could have been cut off the intake hat for the ac compressor to go on there? I'll let you know what the owner says.

Here is another picture. Also from the ad it says, 5 spd 4500 with 6041 4 spd aux box. Does anyone know anything about this aux box? It is suppose to be some type of overdrive.

thats a regular 5.9 12 valve with a p-pump just like the ones we have in our trucks...it may have come out of a big ford bus or bigger ford truck...or maybe a baby freightliner...the intake is just positioned that way cause thats where it fits best and thats a BHAF filter which most of us have as well....good work on that truck!!....i gotta tell u guys though those older ford trucks look nicely put together when ur in the south but up here they are the WORST with rusting of the 3 brands

I don't know how he is willing to sell it that cheap. My dad, brother, and I did the work on my conversion and I have at least that much just in parts. Not counting buying my truck and the labor. I never would have dreamed you could buy a converted Cummins in anything for under $10,000. I know some of the companies doing conversions are charging $13,000 for the conversion. If the truck runs good and is not rusted, I would say it is an incredible deal. My concern would be why is it selling so cheap?

See if you can find an independant appraiser near the seller....At least the appraiser would be able to tell you if the body is straight or not!
