Ford 6.6L information-input?

Has anybody had any dealings with the Ford 6.6L in a mid to late 80's F750 or 850?
Looks like a very simple and straightforward design, even has the Bosch inline injector pump, albeit on the passengers side though.

All I could tell from the label on the valve cover was that this engine family is rated as a paltry 190 hp, and no TQ value was given. I'll bet with some work 250 hp is possible, (maybe 425 TQ?) and the design looks stout enough to handle power uprates.

Looking at one for my brother to use in rollback service.

I wonder if anyone has ever considered transplanting one into an F-350. It should fit.

It's an orphan engine made in Brazil. Not a great motor in the first place and getting hard to find parts for.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't understand why that engine wasn't more popular. An inline six with that displacement could have been some real competition for the B series Cummins engines, sort of like the inline sixes offered by I-H early on (DT-466, i.e.).
I don't want to get into having to search for parts like when I need something for my tractor. May have him pass on that one, but he is really unhappy with the '05 6.0 F-350 the company furnishes him now.

The big reason why they arent too popular, is what you stated...190hp coupled to a med duty truck. There's some people sled pulling with its big brother, the 7.8. If you were building an old Ford show truck, then it would be good. You'd have the Ford logo on the valve cover. It's not too bad internally, as far as strength goes....but you run into the finding parts issue. From what I hear, all you can do is go thru a Ford or New Holland tractor shop for parts.

You reckon they may have been used in some of the New Holland ag applications? That would make getting parts pretty easy, I suppose.

That would be correct, the truck version was an ag. application first.
