Ford 6.0
Ford 6.0
Hi there all. I took a trip over to one of the Ford forums (havent in a long time) and I see that the horror stories are still being posted. Seems the engine is still causing people a lot of problems and a new surprise, the auto tranny seems to be a problem area as well. I guess I feel sorry that Ford builds a good truck but puts a bad engine and possibly tranny in it.
Ok enough of the sorrow, I am happy to own a Dodge. With the camper on the back of the truck im at 13440 pounds and the only mod to the truck is air springs. You hardly know there is a camper on the back of the truck.
Dan
P.S. my truck is a 04 regular cab dually 4x4 with cummins and six speed

You are correct. I too check on things over at TDS from time to time. Mainly because I had a contract written up for an 04 F250 w/ the 6.0 before I decided to "Dodge it". I feel like I made a good decision in the end. I know most everyone is a little brand loyal, but those Ford guys are brutal! Whatever you do, don't go over there and suggest that the 6.0 may be a little less than perfect, because you might receive death threats.
Most of those guys probably think more highly of Bin Laden then they do of a Dodge owner.

I am not going to bash Ford. I will say that alot of the guys over there take the brand loyality thing to new level. I love it when they say............."I have not had any problems except an oil leak, bad milage, and the tranny is stalling the truck, but I still love this truck"
I have read a quite a few post over there that are like that.

Dont get me wrong, I am not bashing the truck in general. I have no reason to argue with anyone weather one truck is better than another, however when it comes to 6.0 vs. the other two engines there is no argument, dont you agree. As I said before the Ford truck is nice just get the gas engine!
I have two friends with F-250's with the 6.0 and it amazes me that with every bit of trouble they've had (which has been alot) they still think their truck is the greatest and mine is a turd. I guess I could shut them up by letting them drive mine!

I have always wondered why there is such a rivalry between dodge and ford? I have visited the chevy/duramax sites and there is almost no bashing at all. I think that says a lot, duramax owners seem to be secure with their trucks, dodge owners are not quite as secure but ford guys are the worst about it IMO. I did enjoy reading a 24 page thread on a ford site where someone ask "6.0 or Cummins?". It quickly became a bunch of personal attacks and irrational BS and the mods let it go on and on until it was well past ridiculous. It made me realize just how good we have it over here with great mods, members, and great trucks.

Coolslice,
I think you hit it on the head when you said we have great moderators and members here. Prevents people from going completely off the deep end on a brand rant...
My employer has a bunch of early 6.0's, and the last time I talked to the head mechanic, a bunch of them had replacement engines...
On the other hand, Ford offers a real crew cab, air conditioned seats, backup assist sensor, built in trailer brake controller... Dodge could learn a couple of things from them.
I also really don't understand some of the threads on the Ford sites...

Air conditioned seats???
I wonder if there is an aftermarket kit for the Dodge????
Imagine the "sweaty butt crack syndrome" you could cut down on???
I think i'd prefer a reliable engine and tranny to creature comforts.
But you are 100% right, those extra features and goodies are what sells vehicles.
Wasn't that long ago it was a big deal to have a cupholder in your truck.

You all are right about a few things,
TDS, i have seen cussing, smart*****, and people who are just plain rude, they dont answer posts, arent very friendly, and seem to be hostile towards "other" brands, I had a ford and thought that forum was the greatest thing since sweet iced tea, BUT when i got a dodge, i was kinda put aside as a traitor, i have made many a post defending the people that got dodges, A bunch of whom now came to this site including myself, NOT ALL PEOPLE are bad on there though, i can name several good friends i have there that own some really nice fords. Many people act like children up there, primary reason i dont post much anymore, i have given up, i have 415 total posts there in a year of use, and in a month i have 120 here, plain and simple, everyone here is friendlier, nicer, and yall know your stuff, you made this newbie feel good, and welcomed.. TDS, i havent lost respect for the site, just other factors involved in it... Its still the best ford site i know, I refer people who own fords to it, and people who own dodges to this one, Im still waitin for my DTR sticker for advertising, and as far as the powerstroke goes...
6.0, should be a 6.DOH!! its been a real problem since day one, why can they get it right in the other rigs? and not with the pickups? I have ridden in some 6.0's and they are wicked fast, but ride like gassers, high RPMS, for High torque, unlike the literal bulletproof 7.3 which was a better low end puller. still is in my opinion, it wasnt broken why fix it? and with rampant rumors of a 6.4 twin turbo in the works? GET THE 6.0 RIGHT FIRST!!
I admit fords are nice, really nice, and im sure there are some good non lemon 6.0's out there, but when you weigh the buybacks, recalls, lemons, and duds with the good ones? its no comparison as to it was a wacky idea from ford to go the 6.0. Im not bashing the 6.0, i was impressed by the running power of one, but its just been too problematic, somewhat doubtful engine at best.....

What honestly amazies me as I look around over at TDS from time to time is that intermixed with all the complaints, there is usually at least one or two people asking: Should I buy a 6.0???? How come these people do not look around and "smell the coffee?"
I would also agree that brand loyalty seems intense with the Ford product. I really don't see why as I have driven a number of SD Fords since they came out in '99 and have thought thier interiors were a step behind the Dodge even in '99. The single thing I really appreciate about that truck line is the solid feel you recieve when you shut the door firmly. Otherwise, (I'll probably take heat for this) it's just another truck.

i think why you here so much trash talking from the ford and doge guys and not so much the chevy guys is because 5 years ago chevy had nothing to brag about and the only to good powerful diesels were the ford and dodge. i think ford and dodge both messed up ford after they quit putting the 7.3 in their trucks. and dodge for comming out with the common rail and getting rid of the 12v and 24v. the comon rail has had less problems than the ford but it still has had its share. i never remember dodge or fords having these kind of problems with their trucks in the mid 90's when they first came out
