Friend of mine is on his second 04 (05?) Powerstroke, but not because of engine problems...

Ford bought the first one back because of transmission problems early on in its life. And as of last week his new one was back in the shop with 12,000 miles on it for a new transmission.

I thought their new transmission was pretty impressive, but that makes me wonder.

You mean common posts like this:

Well after a buy back for oil leak last year, replacement truck had a leak - 3rd truck worked great until now. 19000 miles and another leak. So far rear main seal replaced - no help. Now a transmission drop and possible engine pull. Getting really frustrated - still love the truck.

Priceless! I thought that the 3rd time is the charm!

i have had 3 friends with6.0 every one of them locked their engines up and one of them lost their tranny a month ago under 50,000 miles. these new trucks my lokk great and sound cool but for $40,000 i can have a 12v that will blow the doors off anything on the road and have reliability

which site is this u guys are talking about?...ive been to www.fordtrucks.com a number of times and every single thread end like this:..."but i think the ford truck is a better truck overall"

i have ..i swear to god on this...seen a thread on there in the ford vs competition forum where this one guy talks on and on about his 94 7.3 IDI how he went through two axles..replacedthe front steering twice...glow plugs twice....leaks and eats oil for 4 years but "man is that truck tough!!" THAT WAS HIS RESPONSE...i gotta find it for everyone it was really funny

i read comments like that cummins is really sturdy sure would be nice in my F350....dodge has more room inside...i like dodges NV 5600....dodges new frame is better...but thgen they finish by saying "but i think the ford is better overall"

Check your PM, I don't want to degrade another forum and it's members publicly but you will find 3 or 4 guys there that their only purpose in life is to talk smack about Dodge and Cummins. I know because I WAS a member there. They have a true disgust for non-ford owners. A few bad apples have ruined that entire place and the mods seemed to have let it, not something we need to worry about around here.

I say to each his own, am I biased? sure am, I`ve only had my diesel for about 3 months but I`m loving every minute so far. I have a friend who has a `00 7.3 PSD, he loves it and I admit it`s a nice ride, has some get up and go and the interior is really nice (compared to my truck), but even he say`s he would`nt buy a 6.0, he plans on keeping his "old" 7.3 till the wheels fall off.

As for your earlier response "halerazor" and the "mess up" coming out with Common-rail. They have had no choice, they must meet emissions standards somehow, and Common-rail injecton is currently the most relaible and cost-effective way to do so. There's more behind these changes than just more power!

unlike the literal bulletproof 7.3 which was a better low end puller. still is in my opinion, it wasnt broken why fix it?"

I agree. I love the 7.3. you can really make them go with just a few things. I mean, they coulda just put the new turbo, and injection program in the 7.3 and have an incredible truck. My pop has a 02 F-550 and it is a beast. Its got the Banks Big Hoss Bundle, you know, the who shimole. Is got the 6 speed, and the rev limitor and speed limitor taken off. Its a freakin rocket. Has power all over, tows a trailor almost as good as my truck does (NOT!!). But its awesome man. it just begs to go. needs a bigger turbo tho. IDK if garret makes a big one...

I wonder when Ford is going to get the 6.0 sorted out.

The last time I was at my Ford dealer (a month or so ago) he had five buy-backs sitting on his lot. This dealer is in a small town (less than 3000 population)--I wonder how many buy-backs are sitting on lots around the country? They have a special sticker in the window telling what the problem was, and that it is now fixed and the truck carries a full (get this) 12 month warranty.

I can't imagine who would buy one.

Once again, deezle1 this time, the 7.3L is dead for the same reason as the older P-7100 pump 2 valve Cummins. It's all about EMISSIONS and the CARB (California Air Reources Board) and the EPA. Truth be told, they would like to elimiante the diesel altogether. With the tighter '07 regulations and fuel standards coming into effect, they could nearly do so in one fell swoop.

I thoght the 7.3 exceeded emissions for CARB. Hmmm, maybe im just stupid......Ne who, i doubt they will eliminate the diesel, as it has such popularity. And what other engines can haul like a diesel....NONE!!!. Why do Mack Trucks and other large brand names have diesels? Cuz they work and are efficent at it.
JM2C tho...
