AN fitting sizes

Due to my getting up there in age, my memory is crapping out on me. Can anyone tell me what AN size is closest to 3/8", 6AN or 8AN???

It's ## per sixteenths.

6/16 = 3/8

7/16 = 7/16

8/16 = 1/2

12/16 = 3/4

etc.

That's 100% of what I know about them.

I know this was not asked, but just in case anyone is thinking of trying it, DO NOT join auto type fittings to the AN or MS fittings as they could leak. Reason: the flare angles are different.

I recently found out from my fitting supplier after wasting some money on the fancy AN fittings that the AN and JIC are interchangeable. The only thing is depending on what climate one lives in, the fancy blue aluminum AN fittings can chemically interact with the typical steel or brass JIC fittings. I just wish we could have some more angles and metric adapters in the JIC fittings.
