February TOM Candidate Sign-Up
IF IT FITS THE CATEGORY,,,,,,,,
** DIESEL CONVERSIONS **
**********************************************
Truck Of the Month Procedure for 2008
The DTR TOM Staff has come up with a new procedure for choosing the TOM candidates.
* Starting Dec. 1st, 2007, we will post a thread with the winner for this month’s poll in the General Diesel Discussion section of the forums.
* At the same time, we will post a “TOM Candidate” thread in the same forum. In this thread we will announce the category of trucks that will be accepted as possible candidates. (1st Gen 250, 350, 2nd Gen 2500, 3500, 3rd Gen 2500, 3500, MegaCab, etc.)
* If your truck falls into the chosen category for that month and you would like to have a chance to be in the poll, then you can nominate your truck by posting a picture from your gallery in that thread.
* NOTE: The picture MUST come from your Diesel Truck Resource Member Photo Gallery! (Anything else will be deleted.)
* You can also list some of the mods and accessories on your rig in the same post. Please post only once in that thread because the TOM committee will select three trucks from that thread to be in the poll. The process for selecting the three candidates from this thread will be completely at random. If your truck is not selected for the poll or it is but it doesn't win, you may nominate it again when your category comes back around.
* Previous Winners of the TOM will not be eligible to participate. (Previous Winner being defined as truck and/or DTR Member)
* The “TOM Candidate” thread will be open from the 1st of the month until the 14th of the month. That gives you two weeks to submit your truck.
* At this time it will be locked, the three poll candidates will be chosen at random and the poll will be posted on the 15th . The poll will be voted on until the end of the month and we start all over again on the 1st of the next month by posting the winner in one thread and posting the “TOM Candidate” thread for the next month's category.
*****************************************
So let's see them folks,,,,,,,, If you put a CTD in your Granny's Studebaker,,,,, or a 7.3 Powerstroke in Wifey's Grand Caravan,,,,, or any other swap where you planted a diesel of any kind in something it didn't leave the factory with,,,,,, Post them here!
Maybe you can be one of the three candidates that will be randomly chosen for the poll.

Well here's my Chebby. I started the conversion back in 95 with a frame off build, Finished it in 96. No computer, no internet to search (geeze just how much info on conversions was out there in 96)LOL.
With a little bit of luck and a hell of a lot of determination I got it in there. When I brought the truck home it had 300,000+ hard oilfield miles. Now, 11 years down the road the truck now has 800,000+. The Cummins under the hood has pretty close to 800,000 miles on it. Everything around the outside of the motor has gave up at least twice & I think it's on it's 3rd injection pump. It has usual tuning & tweeking that we all do. To be honest with you it's purdy tired.
Got her all the way down to the frame.
Here's a few pic's of it after getting a bath.
Don't rag on me to hard about the K&N sticker,....It's been MIA for a long time LOL
Home made bumper, just never got around to painting it
Not real sure how many conversions had been done on this bodystlye back in middle 90's but I'll bet this truck was one of the first few. This truck will get another tranplant as soon as the oil patch slows down. Purchased a 24v/Allison Freightliner combo 2 years ago but no time to get it dropped in.

Well, here's my conversion.
Taken off the road, transplant performed, and put back on the road in 30 days. And documented the whole thing for your reading pleasure (click on the link in my sig).
It's a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4 that I swapped in a brand new 305/555 HPCR engine and 48RE transmission. It's our family vehicle (barely big enough with 5 kids ) and will also be used as my tow rig.
List of all the goodies...
SPS62 turbo
ATS exhaust manifold
*****'s Whistler intake
MBRP 4" stainless exhaust w/ 5" tip
ARP Head studs
GDP fuel pump and remote 2 micron filter
Stage I DIY CP3 mod
Laminate flexplate
Goerend triple disk torque convertor
Billet input shaft
ATS standalone controller and valvebody
Mag-Hytec deep pan
Misc internal parts from HTS
Diprocol gauges mounted overhead
Smarty
NP273 transfer case w/ dodge input shaft
Coming soon:
Flux 1.8 injectors
Still have a few things to work out, but I'm getting closer. I'll get some better pics taken in a few days... We went from just above 0 degrees w/ snow and ice on the ground to about 50 degrees. So it's just a giant mud hole right now.
Here's some pics for now... (the first one is a before picture)
A couple more before pics (before the weather got bad)...

Here is my candidate.
1972 Chevy C/10 2wd long bed. Switched over to the dark side in 1981 by my Dad. The truck was a daily driver until 1986 when it lost oil pressure and broke the crank. The truck then sat in the bushes until 1997, when I turn 16 and rebuilt engine and put back on the road. I drove off and on as a second truck through high school and college. I am now doing a frame off restore on it as funds allow. She is not the prettiest thing on the road but it will be one day.
Here are some details on it.
Engine:
Allis Chalmers 433I
orginally in Allis Chalmers 6080 tractor.
4 cylinder
200 cu. in.
rated @ 80 pto hp (I have turned it up to about 130 hp)
Air Research turbo
air to water intercooled
Roosta Master injection pump (same as in tractor but with a Olds governor)
Transmission:
Ford granny low 4 spd from a 1976 F250
Clutch:
Centerforce for 1976 Ford F250 w/ 390 engine
Rear axle:
GM 10 bolt with 3.07 gears
Well that about covers it. If you have any questions about feel free to shoot me a PM on it.
Thanks.

1987 V3500 Gmc
Well, here is another chevy. No real wild mods, but it is solid and fun to drive.
-1987 V3500
-6" lift with 35" tires
-Lockers front and rear(D60, Corperate 14 Bolt)
-6BT P-Pump Cummins from F700 Ford - washer mod, fuel plate forward, AFC forward, star wheel opened up, 24V manifold, 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust, factory chevy A/C, dodge p/s and vacuum pump.
-2nd Gen intercooler chopped and fitted
-4L80 transmission, full manual transgo valve body, manual lockup convertor, extra frictions, all available upgrades for durability.
I am not going to list every switch, bracket, light, or custom made part as you would be bored....but, with any conversion there are alot of things that get modified.

Here Is My Money Maker
1985 F-350 chassis-cab DRW 2WD, originally a 6.9 I-H Navistar Diesel w/4-speed; the original engine/chassis has over 500,000 hard-working miles.
January 2006, thanks to the efforts of Levi, myself, and others, it is now powered by a low-mileage 1989 Non-IC 1st Gen. Cummins, with 5-speed Getrag.
Two Glacier Diesel Big-Line kits and a 3936320 Piston-lift-pump draw the fuel from THREE tanks, two factory-installed 20-gallon and an auxilliary 52-gallon, for a total fuel capacity of 92-gallons, draw-lines and return-lines controlled seperately by a pair of four-way manual valves.
A by-pass emergency electric lift-pump is in the works.
Cooled by the cavernous Ford diesel radiator, newly replaced this summer.
Alternator, air-conditioner-compressor, and trailer vacuum supply-pump, from the original engine, are mounted via custom-built brackets.
The A/C compressor and vacuum-pump share a V-belt drive, with the alternator and water-pump being 8-rib serpentine.
All gauge-senders were moved from the old engine into the Cummins, such that all factory gauges function properly.
The transmission end of the Dodge speedometer cable was spliced to the cab end of the Ford cable, the results being that both the speed and odometer are dead-on accurate.
Extra gauges include mechanical temperature, mechanical oil-pressure with emergency cut-off valve, mechanical fuel-pressure with emergency cut-off valve, truck vacuum (provided by the Cummins gear-driven pump), trailer vacuum (provided by the belt-driven pump), ISSPRO combination pyrometer/boost, alternator-driven tachometer, compass, LED clock, inside/outside thermometer, and a thermometer mounted in an A/C vent.
Walmart stereo system and a Cobra 25LTD Classic C.B. radio.
Nearly a hundred marker-lights.
Gooseneck and fifth-wheel ready, plus a receiver-hitch.
Electric trailer-brake controller.
Genuine stop-on-a-dime honest-to-goodness vacuum-over-hydraulic trailer-brake controls, with park-lock capability.
MICO hydraulic brake line-lock on truck brakes.
Captains chairs w/custom console.
Hand-made shifter-rod w/custom long-haul hand-grip.
Blue LED dash spotlighting.
Red anti-glare interior lights.
Ranger XL interior package.
Privacy curtain-track w/curtains.
Genuine Double-Eagle 42" sleeper w/leather interior, w/back of truck-cab cut out for proper access.
Lockable tool storage both sides under sleeper and both sides of auxilliary fuel-tank.
One 31s battery under the hood and TWO more in frame-mounted carrier.
Large air-tank and 12-volt compressor.
Large auxilliary reverse lights, both automatic and manual control.
Rear facing loading lights.
Switchable reverse flood-lights wired through trailer-supply.
Over-head spotlights.
Bumper-mounted fog-lights/flood-lights.
SilverStar headlights on relay control.
Mirror-mounted turn-signals.
Column-mounted Signal Stat non-cancelling turn-signal switch.
Etc., Etc., Etc., I am running out of ink.
Here is what she looks like :
She ain't too purty, but she sure can dance.

Here are some pictures of my dad's truck. It was originally an 85 crew cab, 2 wheel drive dually, and had a 360 V8 and an automatic transmission. We replaced that motor with a Cummins and 5 speed Getrag out of a 93 model donor truck. We then changed the truck from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive, and it has the NP205 transfer case. We then did 4 inch exhaust from the transfer case back and split the exhaust UNDER the truck and brought each side through the front corners of the bed into 5 inch turnouts. This entire project was done in the backyard laying in the dirt and done by my dad with some of my help. It is an everday work truck so it is not clean often. It is also still a work in progress and will be repainted and have the interior redone as time allows. Hope you like it!!
